Job Description

Key Components of the role
Effective communication with research and development teams to understand and plan for studies
Manage laboratory inventory to ensure seamless execution of studies to support product commercialization
Lead and execute all aspects of testing including microbial challenge studies, product formulation validation studies, shelf life testing, model development studies and  method validation
Create and maintain a database of testing data, identify trends and timely communication of results to research and development and business teams
Monitor, track and report progress against goals to key stakeholders (i.e. R&D leads, Micro and Food Safety leads, Quality director etc.)
Support special situations fact finding and resolution.  Ensure resolution of chronic and/or serious product safety and quality issues and contribute to the development of programs and strategies to prevent future issues
Understand food safety and quality programs at manufacturing plants in assigned business unit and incorporate this knowledge in executing testing to troubleshoot product quality and microbial environmental monitoring challenges
Monitor industry microbial testing strategies to support food quality and food safety and determine impact to assigned business unit and product categories
*Minimum Qualifications
BS Degree in Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Food Science or other related field. MS preferred
1-2 years of experience in performing standard microbial (pathogen and non pathogen) testing methods across different product matrices
1-2 years of experience in designing and executing microbial challenge studies and shelf life testing across different product matrices
1-2 years of experience of managing a food microbiology laboratory or a supervisory role in a food testing laboratory including management relationships with clients
Excellent data management, communication and organizational skills
Working knowledge of HACCP, GMPs and SSOPs
Working knowledge of food safety and regulatory requirements
