Job Summary

Country Boy Brewing was founded in 2012 by four native Kentuckians for one simple reason To make the best damn beer in America. In 6 short years, we have gone from our Lexington 2 barrel, homebrew-on-steroids operation to opening a 22,000 square foot production facility in the rolling hills of beautiful Georgetown, KY. With two facilities, comes the need for more Country Boys and Girls to join our team.

Position: QC Laboratory Technician

Supervisor: Head of Brewing Operations / CBB Partners

The Quality Control Laboratory Technician is to be responsible for inspecting, testing, sorting, sampling or weighing raw materials or processed products for deviations from specifications. This is includes using precision measuring instruments and testing equipment to generate, compile, organize, and evaluate quality assurance data so that all functions in the brewery are monitored. Maintain the laboratory in a fully functioning and professional manner and act as a scientific resource to the rest of the staff.

Hours: Full-time.

Pay: Salaried Position. Based on experience.

Responsibilities and Duties

-Execute, update and provide recommendations for Standard Operating Procedure and policy review.

-Collect and perform analytical procedures and testing on raw materials, in progress beer, as well as packaged goods (including water, wort, yeast, beer, brewery equipment, and environment). This includes aseptic and environmental sampling throughout the brewery, preparing microbiological media and sterile plating, and performing chemical and microbial analysis.

-Maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment as well as accurate record keeping.

-Work in conjunction with brewing and packaging departments to ensure quality from raw materials to finished product and help maintain an organized beer archive.

-Use, maintain and calibrate analytical equipment and instrumentation.

-Communicate consistently with brewery personnel and management regarding quality assurance issues

-Advocate and promote continuous quality and safety improvement.

-Other duties as assigned by CBB Partners. These job descriptions may be updated as the company grows and management sees fit.

Qualifications and Skills

-BS/BA (or 4-year experience equivalent) in Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, or other related field.

-Ability to use equipment such as microscopes, and other tools requiring sound vision (natural or corrected)

-Familiarity with general laboratory instruments and techniques including a cellometer, serial dilutions, pipetting, aseptic technique, etc.

-Strong organizational and verbal and written communication skills.

-Ability to work independently in a cooperative environment, with a proactive, self-starting attitude.

-Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Microsoft Excel.

-Able to stand for extended periods, reach, bend, stoop, lift 50 pounds, and occasionally maneuver 165 pound kegs.

-Ability to adhere to safety standards and protocols in both a manufacturing and laboratory environment

-Must be 21 years of age

Preferred Qualifications

-Experience in a laboratory is strongly preferred, with special considerations for quality lab experience.

-Knowledge of the brewing process, brewing science, and fermentation science.

-Previous experience in a production brewery, food plant, or beverage plant.
