Position will support an R&D team to develop both standard and innovative products to demonstrate Company’s product line in support of existing and new business growth opportunities at targeted customers.  Provide leadership in a team environment and actively contribute ideas and physical assistance while further developing an expertise in the use of flavors and food ingredients, specifically for beverages, and flavor bases, across a wide variety of products.  Effectively communicate the features and benefits of Company’s product lines and assists in delivering presentations to customers, sales and internal management. Plans, coordinates, and completes customer-oriented projects by developing dairy ingredients/systems, flavor systems, and production directions.  


  • Provide technical support for the Business Unit including travel to customers for technical assistance as necessary, as well as attending technical/trade conferences 
  • Develop new products for the appropriate group, which includes formulation, Nutritional analysis, and proper instruction for manufacturing process.
  • Assist in the process to complete projects in pilot plant, including projects using the steam kettle, homogenizer, spray dryer, Glatt Agglomerator, or other equipment.  Report and evaluate results from experiments.  
  • Perform tests on new samples produced in the pilot plant to evaluate actual results compared to predicted results.  Complete formulation and application testing in the lab.  
  • Perform tests on current production materials as required by customer requests or assist Quality with evaluation of product complaints. 
  • Work with Sales to assist customers with technical service. 
  • Work with Procurement to test alternate raw materials/ingredients in order to evaluate suitability for substitution in an existing production situation or new formula development. 
  • Maintain integrity of R&D laboratory environment through accurate test design and set up, good sanitary practices and maintenance of equipment in good working order. 
  • Maintain accurate files of all R&D work completed. Maintain all project files and Lab Notebooks as required. 
  • Complete weekly updates in Salesforce and communicate project status to Sales. 
  • Develop and Identify tests to allow Quality Control to evaluate functionality of finished goods and new products. 
  • Identify and implement product improvement and cost improvements. 
  • Assessment of competitive product lines. 
  • Carry out sensory analysis, physical testing and other methodology to fully test products. 
  • Commercialization = Work closely with manufacturing on integrating and adapting R&D formulas to full production quantities.  Provide technical assistance to Production as necessary.  Use Technical Transfer as necessary.   
  • Stay current with new technology and developments and maintain professional contacts with individuals and organizations. Build and maintain relationships with current and potential customers. 
  • Provide research and technical support in all marketing efforts across appropriate business pillar.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings 
  • Keep supervisor informed at all times.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Physical Chemistry, Food Technology, Food Chemistry, and Chemical Engineering or related physical science area is required.  
  • 5 - 10 years’ experience in New Product Development and work in a food laboratory in a dairy, spray drying, or food ingredient facility
  • Knowledge with principals of food processing, food science, food and dairy chemistry, spray drying, agglomeration, and biochemistry are essential to successfully perform job.  
  • The ability to develop new products from all aspects is required. An understanding of each piece of processing equipment utilized is required (ie steam kettles, homogenizer, dryer HTST, retort, and Glatt). Ability to conduct experimental design tests and accurately report results in a manner suitable for presentation to customers and management.  
  • Collaborative, problem solving, good communication and ability to work with minimal supervision, as well as with others are skills for good job performance. 
  • Detail oriented and multitasking is a must.  
  • Complete computer skills required (Microsoft office, Genesis, etc).  
  • Health and Wellness, Sports Nutrition and Clinical Nutrition experience is a plus.
