The Quality Manager is the SQF Practitioner on location, verifying and validating established quality programs, process controls, SSOP, SPS and HACCP Programs. Documents quality department functions on incoming ingredients, production processes and finished goods to ensure compliance. Conducts tests, projects and process improvements. Investigates customer complaints, assists in product recall, maintains and verifies all ingredients, packaging materials and finished products. Works with other departments on continuous improvement of quality, yields and efficiencies.


  • Ensures food safety, product quality and personnel safety.
  • Monitors production conditions, specs, processes and tracking controls.
  • Keeps abreast of developments that affect product specs, quality, processes, yields, etc.
  • Develops and monitors system verifying checks and audits to meet requirements.
  • Assures finished product specification sheets are correct and verified.
  • Develops and trains quality techs and production monitors for HACCP CCP's and control points.
  • Audits and verifies all weights, temperatures recorded on production line. Takes corrective actions and determines root cause, implementing corrective actions and preventative measures.
  • Develops and monitors finished product evaluations.
  • Responsibility to report all possible deficiencies or practices that could compromise food safety.
  • Adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all times.
  • Maintains supplier rating system based on incoming ingredient inspections and warehouse inspections.
  • Inspects and tracks raw materials, meat and non-meat when received (temp, weight, pack date).
  • Random samplings for bacteria.
  • ROSS hold-report must be reviewed (warehouse and supply chain notified of releases).
  • Verifies sanitation pre-op inspections and advises sanitation management of deficiencies.
  • Conducts weekly Quality Supervisor meetings and monthly quality tech meetings, keeping all quality employees informed of company developments or changes affecting finished product specifications, quality procedures or process changes.
  • Works closely with the USDA in maintaining compliance with federal regs for labeling, sanitation and operating procedures.
  • Possesses knowledge of ingredients and finished product to act as source of info and trouble-shooter.
  • Effectively utilizes resources (personnel and lab) of Quality Department.
  • Reviews budgeted line items.
  • Verifies SSOP, GMPs and HACPP CCP.


  • Conducts plant walk-through to verify quality supervisors and techs are addressing responsibilities.
  • Monitors employee's personal GMP practices on production floor.
  • On-line training of quality techs; mentoring team leaders in quality issues.
  • Attends production meetings to address issues that quality supervisors or techs can't solve.
  • Verifies that paperwork is completed correctly.
  • Pre-shipment review of HACCP paperwork.


  • Self-motivated and works independently.
  • Capable of making sound judgments/decisions.
  • Ability to direct personnel and discipline fairly/consistently.
  • Ability to communicate effectively to all levels.


  • Bachelor's degree in food tech/science with meats background preferred or degree in related science.
  • Supervisory experience in quality.
