Job Summary:


The Food Safety specialist plans and the development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes, materials, and products. Assists in the creation of safety quality food (SQF) plans and conducts operational and pre-operational sanitation inspections to drive continuous improvement throughout the quality assurance and production departments.


 Primary Responsibilities:

•Verifies with specific departments that all Food Safety, Quality Assurance. Safety Quality Food (SQF), and Regulatory programs are functioning as designed, being followed, and correctly documented.

•Assists in the maintenance and creation of the Safety Food Quality (SQF) plan and takes appropriate action to maintain its integrity

•Conducts sanitation audits as directed with documented corrective actions and follow-ups as necessary

•Prepares and completes action plans, implements production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards

•Develops Quality Assurance Plans and reviews work procedures on a regular basis.

•Conduct operational and pre-operational sanitation inspections, including micro sampling, and inspection of cleanliness of equipment to verify the effectiveness of sanitation activities.

•Demonstrate knowledge of applicable quality assurance and food safety programs and apply them throughout daily responsibilities.

•Quickly and thoroughly investigate a product/process failure, determine the root cause and take prompt corrective actions while minimizing product exposure and production downtime.

•Investigate and act in response to any negative micro and shelf life data to drive improvement.

•Provide training, guidance, and corrective action/performance reviews for team of technicians

•Serve as back-up to technicians during absences


 Minimum Requirements:


Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or equivalent.


Required 3 years’ experience in Food Safety, Quality, Production, or Project Management in the food industry.


Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite in addition to knowledge of manufacturing processes and procedures.


Experience with Food Safety Audit expectations and requirements preferred


Comprehensive knowledge of USDA, hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP), and sanitation standard operating


procedure (SSOP) requirements


Safety Food Quality (SQF) Expert & Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) Expert certifications preferred

Physical Demands:


While performing the duties of this job, the employee must be able to use a keyboard and telephone.  Frequent sitting, talking, hearing, and occasional standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, lifting 50lbs, ability to adjust vision for close vision work.  Occasional exposure to airborne dust, high humidity and extreme heat are possible in the plant.
