The Food Safety Compliance Officer is responsible in assisting the Director of Quality in managing and directing all aspects of SQF certification, Quality and Food Safety systems including the Prerequisite Programs and HACCP plan. The Compliance Officer will work closely with the Project Manager in handling small client projects, ensuring food safety and quality are enforced.

Essential Duties:

  • Sets standards and monitors procedures to ensure food safety at all stages of the operation
  • Conducts HACCP reviews, updates etc.
  • Conducts regular meetings with the HACCP team to exchange information and discuss new procedures or equipment related to food safety
  • Creates diverse forms to document and support HACCP systems
  • Keeps accurate and comprehensive records using a diverse range of documents
  • Develops training and orientation materials about HACCP and related topics (GMPs, sanitation, etc.)
  • Conducts formal and informal employee orientation and training in HACCP principles, CCPs, GMPs, etc.
  • Prepares materials designed to assess employees' level of comprehension on food safety subjects
  • Interacts with suppliers in order to communicate company standards for quality and safety of incoming products
  • Writes comprehensive procedures for Prerequisite Programs and HACCP system
  • Practices and promote GMPs and plant safety procedures
  • Supports plant's goals and values
  • Bonus if fluent in spanish

Relationships/Inter-department Liaisons

(Works with Director of Quality on All Tasks)

  • Interacts with purchasing, maintenance, process, packaging and warehouse employees to ensure reliability of food safety programs
  • Works together with maintenance, process, packaging departments on corrective actions ensuing from customer complaints, nonconforming products, auditing, changes to procedures, HACCP plan changes
  • Interacts with all staff on methods and policies development
  • Leader of cross-departmental HACCP team
  • Works closely with other laboratory staff in order to maintain efficient testing, clean working environment
  • Works with project manager to make sure food safety and quality aspect is covered.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in developing and maintaining HACCP and Quality plans
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Must be capable of troubleshooting and resolving issues in fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Extensive computer skills: standard Microsoft Office applications

Required Experience

  • A minimum of two years of Quality Assurance and Quality Control experience
  • HACCP experience
  • Food manufacturing/packaging experience

Required Education

  • Associate or Bachelor Degree in food science or science related field from an accredited college or university

Required Qualifications

  • Must have SQF Practitioner certification
  • Must have HACCP certification
