ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The duties and responsibilities of this position shall consist of, but not be limited to the following:

  • Write, observe, obtain measurements, organize data, and aid in the evaluation of R&D new product development tests and process improvement tests. Communicate instructions and coordinate with various plant departments to follow tests through the system. Prepare test samples for shipment to appropriate parties.
  • Independently conduct tests with minimal oversight, primarily in the snack stick plants (New Glarus, Bellevue, Mankato), but may include other locations.
  • Measure and evaluate process variation and yields. Investigate process deviations. Measurements include physical properties like weight, diameter and length; chemical properties like Aw, Ph, and moisture; temperature, humidity, sensory panels, and shelf life studies. Interpret data and report or act on results.
  • Evaluate process data from co-packers.
  • Maintain various process control and R&D documents, such as plant allergen wash down charts, blend calculator, formula master, label setup sheets, pickle calculator, and seasoning specifications. Prepare written specifications for new products and changes to FSQ (food safety & quality).
  • Observe and assist with new product initial production runs in the plants; interacting with purchasing, operations, quality & engineering departments.
  • Maintain records of samples in storage. Keep storage areas neat & orderly.
  • Participate in in-house technical presentations by ingredient & equipment suppliers.
  • Participate in the innovation process for new idea generation.

Job Requirements

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in food science or related field.
    • Basic knowledge of food/meat processing and/or preparation.
    • Basic understanding of statistics
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required.
    • Team player with excellent communication skills
    • Able to work in cold/hot/wet conditions
  • Intense natural curiosity, good listener, strong work ethic, and exacting attention to detail
