Develey Mustard & Condiments is looking
for a Food Scientist to join our team in our manufacturing facility in
Dyersburg, Tennessee. The focus of this position is specifically on
mustards, sauces, dressings and ketchup. This individual will lead product
development projects, develop formulas, processing procedures and
specifications for new products, product enhancements and cost reductions
under direction of Quality Manager.
- Development of experimental
formulas, processing procedures and specifications for finished
products for new products, product improvements, and cost reductions
meeting price, marketing, regulations and operational goals.
- Organizes and manages test runs
to validate or modify formulas and processing procedures to develop
final specifications for the product and reproducibility of finished
- Works closely with Marketing,
Sales, Operations and external customers.
- Generates samples for
presentation to customers while maintaining awareness of current plant
- Works with team members to ensure
successful startups of new products, product improvements, cost
reductions and process changes.
- Familiarity and experience with
Stage & Gate process to manage projects and timelines.
- Assists Quality with sensory
evaluations of raw materials and finished products as needed.
- Provides technical solutions to
production issues as it relates to ingredient, formulas, processing
procedures, and specifications to ensure continuous productions and
maintain product quality and safety.
- Documents project status, progress
issues, solutions timeline, and accountability according to
established procedures and guidelines, providing timely and effective
oral and written communication and reports.
- Responsibility for the
technical implementation of projects and ability to independently
troubleshoot and resolve various project challenges.
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
- Strong leadership, technical,
communication and organizational skills required.
- Effective communication skills
(oral, written, verbal) along with attention to details. Presentation
skills required. Must have the ability to effectively communicate with
cross functional business partners.
- Ability to handle multiple
assignments, develop work plans and prioritize.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical
and problem solving skills.
- Strong project management and
- Understanding of product
formulation, food processing and the Research & Development
process, regulatory labeling and food safety requirements.
- Proficient in computers.
- BS in Food Science, Food
Engineering or related field.
- 2+ years in Product Development
with a food manufacturer.
