Quality Assurance Manager - Nu-World Foods - Dyersville, IA

 

 

 

COMPANY BACKGROUND:

Nu-World Foods is a dynamic leader in the rapidly expanding gluten-free, allergy friendly food industry.  Nu-World has corporate offices in Naperville, IL, and dedicated gluten-free contract manufacturing (dry mixes and finished popped goods) and milling and blending operations located in Dyersville, Iowa, home of the “Field of Dreams”, Dyersville is a friendly community of 5,000 located 20 miles west of Dubuque in the rolling hills of northeast Iowa, about 3 1/2 hours from Chicago.

 

This position will be located at our Dyersville, IA location and report to the Quality Assurance/R&D Director and President.

   

Roles and Responsibilities:

·         Responsible for all aspects of company Quality Assurance in compliance with local, state, and federal food safety standards

·         Helps to develop and maintain a culture in which quality production is top priority and a spirit of continuous improvement is fostered as well as strict awareness of gluten-free and allergy friendly initiatives

·         Monitors performance across production areas and works with area managers to improve performance on a continual basis in response to risk assessment process, testing of incoming ingredients, outgoing products, observations and/or incidents

·         Assists with the delivery of company production of consistent and measurable high quality standards

·         Implements programs to ensure compliance with 3rd party industry standards (e.g. AIB, SQF, etc.)

·         Leads SQF and HACCP initiatives as well as on-going continuous improvement efforts including facilitating, organizing, training and advising

·         Maintains, monitors, reviews and implements GMPs, HACCP, SOPS, SSOPS, and gluten-free testing to ensure highest quality products and plant environment

·         Participates in plant documentation reviews to ensure compliance

·         Performs risk assessment on new ingredients and updates HACCP register accordingly

·         Responsible for safekeeping and editing of company documentation

·         Advises QA Director and President of any quality control and food safety issues and presents plausible solutions

·         Maintains current knowledge of trends and changes affecting food safety and develops, recommends and implements appropriate program and policy additions and changes

·         Leads response to customers, inspectors and auditors

·         Integral in internal audit activities as well as system audits and ensures corrective actions are completed

·         Communicates change summaries and critical items to executive staff

·         Supports new product/customer launches by providing required documentation and provides documentation on an on-going basis as needed by current customers

·         Provides COA documentation to customers on finished goods

·         Develops employees plant-wide through training and creation of over-all quality awareness

·         Supervises QA staff and Sanitation staff

 

Requirements:

·         B.S. or B.A. in Quality Assurance, Microbiology, Food Science or equivalent

·         7-10+ years laboratory supervisory or management experience

·         Familiarity with AIB, SQF, BRC, FDA, HAACP and other regulatory and industry guidelines and requirements

·         HACCP certification preferred

·         Hands on laboratory testing experience for product statistical methods and data analysis

·         Strong computer skills

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills

·         Team play and mentor

·         Passion for training and teaching food safety and best practices to all members of the organization
