Description and Responsibilities:

Drives continuous improvement, cost efficiency, troubleshooting existing products and processes, optimization of existing processes. Ensures the smooth scale up of products (NPI) from the R&D pilot plant to the production plant. Consults on special projects from customers to understand performance requirements, quality aspects, and reproducibility of Kerry’s Cell Nutrition solutions, supporting TSS investigations as needed. Ensures formulas/recipes are accurate and up to date in HMI control systems (iFIX). Technical lead on cross-functional teams in Norwich operations.



  • In conjunction with the Process Technology Manager, Production Manager, and Production Supervisor, troubleshoots processing issues from batch-setting through to final product packaging.
  • Assists in developing standard manufacturing procedures for process-improvement projects scaled-up to Production.
  • Reviews processing Batch Records for Protein and Cell Nutrition product processing within the Production plant for technical support inquiries.
  • Maintains and optimizes process control recipes used in the manufacture of Protein and Cell Nutrition products.
  • Assists Product Development (PD) in bench/pilot development of Protein and Cell Nutrition products and complex blends and assists PD in running special tests on the newly developed products.
  • Utilizes design of experiments and current scientific techniques.
    • Works in Pilot Plant to support Production scale-up and commercialization.
    • Executes customer requests, both internal and external, to satisfy project needs from a conceptual phase through commercialization and troubleshooting. Participates in concepts/creative thinking
  • Assists in process development and optimization
  • Executes internal processes.
  • Is able to understand and troubleshoot customer processes.
  • Proposes continuous-improvement projects in the manufacturing processes and develops plans to implement.
  • Drives continuous-improvement of current products and processes.
    • Designs and conducts experiments for efficiency and cost savings initiatives.
    • Implements manufacturing yield and activity improvements.
    • Prepares MOC (Memoranda of Change) documents, as required.
  • Runs required pilot trials and performs all analytical evaluations.
  • May be required to handle hazardous waste (internal training provided).
  • Manages resources required: supply materials ordering; initiates and implements capital expenditures.
  • Works with cross-functional groups to optimize the strengths of Kerry and the Proteins and Cell Nutrition Businesses.
  • Strives for high standards, seeks innovative solutions, drives continuous-improvement of products and processes and demonstrates a high degree of intellectual curiosity. 



  • Minimum of a Master’s degree (MS) in a related science, such as Food Science, Chemistry, or Biochemistry. Familiar and comfortable with statistics and process control systems.
  • A minimum of 5+ years experience in the food or pharmaceutical ingredients industry, with strong understanding of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs).
  • Experience with food processing equipment and processes (evaporation, spray drying, freeze drying, dairy/meat equipment, centrifugation, filtration, sterilization, pasteurization).
  • Demonstrated Leadership – leading projects
