Richelieu Foods, Inc. is a privately held leading supplier of high quality food products to the private label and food service industries. The company has locations across the Midwest with five manufacturing centers that produce salad dressings, BBQ sauces, & other specialty sauces as well as frozen & deli pizza. We maintain a corporate office in the Boston, MA area housing centralized finance and accounting, human resources, sales management and planning, marketing and IT functions.

SUMMARY:
The individual in this role will support the Research and Development Pourables team with new product development, quality improvement, and cost optimization projects through finished sample preparation, data collection, and management of raw material library and documentation. The position will be based at the Company’s Elk Grove Village, IL plant.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist in the formulation functions of R&D
  • Scale up and mix batches as needed
  • Perform chemical and physical tests, (example - pH, acid titration, salt, brix, fat, moisture) on finished samples or ingredients
  • Replenish raw material inventories
  • Maintain lab equipment and proper GLP and GMP practices
  • Prepare finished good/ingredient samples for shipment as needed
  • Maintain raw material documentation
  • Maintain shelf life records
  • Participate in day to day organoleptic evaluations
  • Interact and communicate effectively with the R&D team members and other internal teams (Operations, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance)
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support needs of business

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in microbiology or food science or equivalent work experience
  • Experience with food, specifically sauces and dressings experience is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of lab techniques and practices
  • Basic computer application knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Experience with Genesis is also a plus
  • Demonstrates good verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Detail oriented - Demonstrated experience in maintaining organized lab records
  • Proactive and independent - Able to complete tasks with minimal supervision
  • Able to manage multiple projects and switch direction as needed
  • Self-starter – Must take initiative naturally
  • Must be able to learn from peers and team members and fill in when necessary
  • Willingness to take on new and additional responsibility quickly
