What you will do:

The Food Manufacturing Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the packaging department at the Tillamook plant from the receipt of blocks through packaging, boxing, and palletizing of the finished product while maximizing yields and maintaining cost efficient operations.  Responsibilities include assisting in managing the department, including payroll, scheduling, GMPs, SOP’s, safety, sanitation and operation of equipment.  Troubleshoot and solve problems with processing equipment, issue work orders.

Here’s a day in the life:

  • Supervise the packaging of cheese at Tillamook from the receipt of cheese blocks through the finished product being boxed and palletized while maximizing yields and maintaining a cost efficient operation.
  • Ensure all standard operating procedures (SOPs) are followed
  • Plan, organize, and direct the shift to accomplish production goals
  • Assign and track work orders.
  • Communicate production goals to the crew
  • Reports all exceptions to product or ingredient quality as appropriate based on the seriousness/urgency of the situation.
  • Work with operators to troubleshoot and resolve equipment problems and other production issues
  • Implement plans to correct any problems that are identified, determine where and why the problem occurred, and oversee specific corrective action.  Follow up with corrective action to verify solutions are effective.
  • Utilize labor, operating supplies, and ingredients in the most cost effective manner possible to control costs
  • Manage inventories and consumption of materials utilizing the ERP (NAV) system
  •  Ensure compliance with USDA, OSDA, FDA, and other regulatory product safety requirements for cheese and milk receiving
  • Monitor use of standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Establish manufacturing quality control point testing and measures
  • Implement plans to correct any problems that are identified, determine where and why the problem occurred, and oversee specific corrective action
  • Review the previous day’s production and laboratory reports of cheese analysis
  • Establish effective working relationship with Quality Assurance
  • Work with the maintenance department to plan and schedule repairs and preventative maintenance
  • Establish effective working relationship with maintenance engineering
  • Work with cheese staff and engineering to identify equipment or conditions which pose a risk to safety, quality or production.  Initiate work orders and monitor progress to ensure work orders are effective and completed in a timely manner

Skills you’ll need:

Education and Experience:

High school diploma or GED required.  A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

5 years progressively supervisory responsibility managing in a production environment.

Experience supervising a unionized workforce is a plus.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors and the general public.

Ability to communicate effectively.

 Must be computer literate with intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and SharePoint and specialized ERP database i.e. NAV.

 Must be a team player and be able to interact with staff at all levels of the company.

 Must be able to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and be flexible in working on multiple projects simultaneously.

 Excellent time-management skills with the ability to work production environment independently with little supervision

Physical Requirements: 

Weekend and off-shift work is required.
