Quality Control Microbiologist

Description:

An established foreign food manufacturer has expanded its business to the United States and is currently looking for an experienced food Microbiologist to join our QA team in Los Angeles, California. The Microbiologist will report to the QA Manager. The incumbent will conduct USDA, FDA, and company required tests for raw materials, Ready-to-Eat (RTE) and Non RTE products of different allergens in order to monitor food quality in the perspective of microbiology.

Responsibilities:

  • Isolate and make cultures of bacteria or other microorganisms in prescribed media, controlling moisture aeration, temperature, and nutrition
  • Perform general laboratory preparation including microbiological media, sterilize scientific glassware, gram staining, standard solutions, etc.
  • Collect and analyze daily or weekly preoperational and operational environmental swabs
  • Collect and analyze daily or weekly raw materials and finished product samples
  • Read and verify test results based on USDA, FDA or company requirements on a regular basis. Release products if results are acceptable
  • Address any out of range readings to QA manage, and assist QA manager to conduct further test on hold products before further actions
  • Assist QA manager to update SOPs on micro tests
  • Document all test results and keep them on file for auditing purposes
  • Be responsible for laboratory supplies and calibration of lab equipment
  • Train team members in areas of food safety, food quality, and sample collection SOPs
  • Perform other duties assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelorís degree in biology, microbiology, chemistry, food science, or a related field,
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working as a Microbiologist in a food/meat manufacturing industry
  • Certified microbiologist certification in food safety preferred
  • Experience with setting up and maintaining laboratory equipment and instrumentation for routine microbiology tests
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of food microbiology and associated pathogen tests including but not limited to Listeria, Salmonella, Coliforms, E. Coli, APC, Staphylococcus Aureus, Yeast, Mold
  • Experience with analyzing environmental/food samples.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule including weekends and holidays depending on the operational needs
  • Must be a team player with excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Excellent communications skills along with computer literacy including MS suite, Google Apps and other professional software
