Pinova Incorporated is currently seeking a Quality Director.  The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all quality assurance/quality control and food safety efforts within the organization, including the development and implementation of quality and food safety management systems.  The Director will develop and implement policies, procedures and training materials for the quality and food safety programs.   The successful candidate will help to develop, implement and enforce quality, security and food safety standards, policies, and programs including, but not limited to, ISO 9001:2015, Food Defense Plans, the Safe Quality Food (SQF) standard or other commensurate Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) schemes.


  • Develops, implements and monitors quality and food safety programs that ensure products and services supplied by the company to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Implements quality policies defined by the company in accordance with the quality policies.
  • Accountability of product releases. Manages the non-conformance of raw materials, intermediates and finished products.
  • Provides support and direction to Manufacturing Quality Managers to achieve Quality goals.
  • Communicates with other functions to assure both product quality and processes improvements are implemented and maintained.
  • Administers quality and food safety management systems that support the overall goals and objectives of the business.
  • Conducts facility food safety audits as well as manages second and third party audits.  Sets and manages the internal audit program and annual review for ISO 9001:2015 compliance, as well as, SQF2000 – Level 2, or its equivalent.
  • Monitors and verifies activities to ensure that all products coming in to and out of the facility meet quality and food safety standards.
  • Updates existing food safety procedures and documentation to assure continued compliance with changing global regulations and industry standards/best practices.
  • Ensures line staff and supervisors are adequately trained on quality and food safety programs.  Assists buyers with training and educating potential suppliers to ensure compliance.
  • Works closely with the Operations Manager and VP of Operations on any food safety or quality related issues.
  • Develops and implements proper maintenance, security and sanitation programs for the facility to comply with quality and food safety requirements.
  • Ensures that all company food safety and quality procedures are followed and properly documented at all times.  Evaluates and reports on quality and food safety statistics.
  • Ensures customer complaints are effectively resolved in a timely manner.  Works with Procurement to rapidly resolve supplier issues that may affect product quality or food safety.
  • Hires, trains and supervises QA/QC staff.  Develops and manages QA/QC and food safety budgets.
  • Implements quality KPI’s and monthly and annual reports in QA and QC.
  • Represents the company’s interests at trade associations, industry forums and conferences, as well as, governmental meetings, as necessary.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology or Food Safety is preferred.
  • 5+ years of quality and food safety management experience required.
  • Certified SQF Practitioner, or equivalent, as well as Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI) training required.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Food Defense programs, GMPs and FSMA required.
  • Previous experience with US FDA or state food safety agencies required.
  • ISO 9001 Lead Auditor certified with experience implementing quality and food safety management systems.
  • ASTM and previous laboratory management experience preferred. 
  • Must be able to travel for work or training.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of the company leadership team.
  • Must be flexible with work hours and days.
  • Proven solid work ethic and ability to work well with others as well as independently.
  • Possess strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, and independent ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to be a subject matter expert and has detailed process knowledge of department.
  • Proven ability to build positive, collaborative relationships with different levels of the organization and clients, customers and vendors.
  • Effectively communicate on a technical basis with management, internal and external customers.
  • Excellent verbal, written, computer, and technical communication and presentation skills.
