Job Description

Casey's General Stores headquarters in Ankeny, Iowa is seeking a Full-Time Distribution Center Food Safety Specialist. This position will provide proactive leadership and instruction in the area of food safety within the Distribution Center, as well as mitigate food safety risk through implementation of risk based food safety preventive controls, policies, programs, and training. In addition, the Distribution Center Food Safety Specialist will maintain communication with all related departments to address the identification of food safety hazards while seeking continuous improvements in key performance indicators. This position will also work with Distribution Center stakeholders to manage HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plans and pre-requisite programs, and perform daily monitoring activities to ensure facility's continuous compliance with applicable food safety regulatory requirements (Federal, State/Provincial and Local). Observations of food safety practices to ensure compliance with Preventative Controls Program and Food Safety Modernization Act will also be routinely conducted in this role. 

 

 

Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Health, Food Science, Biology, Microbiology, Food Safety, or related field of study (or equivalent experience).
  • Strong applied knowledge of restaurant food safety and competent knowledge of up-to-date food safety practices.
  • Knowledge of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), SSOPs (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure), FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and other applicable state and local health and food safety codes and principles behind these requirements.

Desired:

  • Knowledge of distribution center operations from a food safety perspective.
  • Food microbiology knowledge.
  • Two years of experience working in food safety, restaurant health inspection or food service auditing in distribution center environment.
  • Certified Food Safety Manager designation.
