Quality Assurance Manager

Overview:

Primal Nutrition, LLC is looking for a full-time Quality Assurance Manager with a flexible location requirement working from a Home Office or Oxnard, CA offices. Primal Nutrition sells high-end vitamin supplements and health education material, and a large and expanding line of quality natural food products. This position reports to the COO and mainly supports the growing food and supplement line of Primal Nutrition products.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the overall QA program, addressing Primal Nutritionís growing line of products made by its extensive line-up of Co-manufacturers.
  • Oversight of manufacturing with all co-manufacturers. Includes site visits & production observation.
  • Develop audit program and implement with co-manufacturers.
  • Observing, tracking, managing and minimizing all customer complaints. Be point of contact for all customer complaints from CS team.
  • Develop program to extend shelf life wherever possible.
  • Conduct third party sensory tests on an ongoing basis to guarantee consistent taste profile among batches.
  • Manage all third party certifications.
  • Review labels for accuracy and ensure that certifications are up to date.
  • Keep up to date on FDA guidelines, nutritional panel changes, etc.
  • Be keeper of current label and track current label versions. Archive and organize old labels.
  • Managing samples, retains and conduct quarterly cut-ins.
  • Manage specs and avocado oil testing.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements:

  • A self-starter with a minimum 5 years of hands on Food QA experience
  • Experience working for a fast-growing company with wide array of Product lines and food safety matters
  • Track record of entrepreneurial accomplishments, not risk adverse
  • Drive and commitment with a high degree of flexibility
  • Excellent leadership, customer and internal communication, negotiation, and team building skills
  • Able to work unsupervised and manage independently
  • Ability to function strategically and handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Understanding of microbiology, sampling, methods, and interpretation
  • Proficient in computers including spreadsheets and statistical programs
  • Lean Six Sigma training or black belt certification is a plus
  • Good writing, statistics (SPC and charting), analytical, and critical thinking skills
  • Detail oriented

Key Competencies:

  • Expert regarding food safety standards that are customary within the food industry and mandated by government regulations. Common standards managers are expected to be familiar with include the Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) management system required by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the standards set by the Safe Quality Food Institute (SQFI).

Education:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Technology or related discipline required, and particular experience with manufacturing QA
  • 5+ years food industry manufacturing or quality experience including co-manufacturing and multi-site leadership experience
  • Certified in HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Point), USDA or FDA preferred
  • Certified in a Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) standard such as BRC or SQF
  • Strong statistical analysis, interpretation and reporting skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication
