Normal Work Schedule:

Generally Monday - Friday 8:30 - 5:00. However, firm inspections may need to be performed outside these hours.

***  The ideal candidate for this position must reside in,
or relocate at their own expense to,
either Charleston or Berkeley county. ***

         Conduct thorough food safety inspections in assigned territory within determined frequency.

         Perform thorough inspections under federal contract by established deadlines.

         Prepare and present accurate, concise, easily understood technical reports at conclusion of each inspection.

         Respond to consumer complaints by performing follow-up inspections to determine source and prepare report of findings. 

         Review food product labels for compliance with Fair Packaging and Allergen labeling laws.   Provide written correspondence to firms when corrections are needed to labels.  

         Remove potentially hazardous or adulterated food products from public sale by issuing stop sales.   

State vehicle provided. (NOTE: If selected for the position, applicant must provide a current/valid copy of driving record at his/her expense.) 

 Minimum and Additional Requirements:

         Bachelor's degree in natural or physical sciences.

         Knowledge of food industry regulations, data collection, tracking, recording, and analysis.

         Proficient in MS Office.

         Valid driver's license.

 Preferred Qualifications:

Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points (HACCP) Certification, Seafood HACCP Certification, Better Process Control School Certification and Food Safety and GMP knowledge preferred.

 Additional Comments:

         Ability to climb stairs, ladders and lift up to 35 pounds.

         Completion of HACCP, Better Processing School, GAP/GHP, and other job related subjects required within 2 years of hire.

         Extensive in-state day travel and occasional overnight and/or out-of-state travel required.

         Ability to prepare reports and written correspondence with accurate technical regulatory verbiage.

         Ability to exercise judgment in applying and interpreting policies, procedures, rules, and regulations, be detail oriented and highly organized.

         Must work effectively in a transparent, team-oriented environment with minimum supervision.

         Ability to communicate effectively and cooperatively with various audiences.
