Job Description
The CQA Technical Coordinator provides technical support and regulatory compliance leadership for food safety and quality assurance programs.  This includes advising senior management of improvements necessary to comply with evolving food safety and other food related regulations.  In addition to maintaining food safety related compliance programs, the incumbent manages all associated programs with foodborne illness complaint investigations and the corporate recall program.  The CQA Technical Coordinator reports to the Director of Corporate Quality Assurance.


Additional responsibilities include:


       developing, assessing, and validating the food safety and sanitary design of equipment and processes with the Fresh, Grocery, and Customer Service Retail Business Units (RBUs) and Facilities Services

       leading, facilitating and/or participating in cross-functional teams for the development of critical and strategic Food Safety and Quality Assurance projects and other business area strategic projects

       developing and implementing Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) and preventative control based systems

       overseeing the different facets of the Corporate Recall Program

       providing oversight and Human Resources management of both direct and indirect reports and their responsibilities

       providing support to the Director of Corporate Quality Assurance (CQA) on any number of special projects and activities related primarily to food safety and product quality


Required Qualifications: 

       Bachelorís Degree in Microbiology, Food Safety, or Food Science related course of study or equivalent experience

       at least three (3) years of experience in a food safety, public health, and/or environmental health

       must be willing to obtain National Environmental Health Associations (NEHAs) Certified Professional  Food Safety (CP-FS),  HACCP Manager Certification and Preventive Controls  Qualified Individual status within one year of being in this position

       knowledge of Microbiology, Chemical Safety, Public Health, and Food Safety

       in-depth knowledge of Federal, State, and local regulatory requirements regarding Food Safety Compliance and Food Labeling

       in-depth knowledge of retail, manufacturing, and distribution processes and programs impacting food safety

       willingness to work a variable schedule including nights, holidays and weekends to meet the business needs

       full understanding of sanitary design of equipment and safe food production processing in a retail and food service environment

       must possess exceptional written communication and public speaking skills

       ability to work independently and be a self-starter

       ability to multi-task and solve problems

       ability to quickly gather and analyze information and data, and design processes

       excellent critical thinking skills, interpersonal skills and negotiation skills

       ability to learn new, complex regulatory requirements and develop compliance strategies for the company

       ability to interpret regulatory requirements and develop practical implementation strategies for compliance

       ability to visualize a situation

       ability to be exposed to highly confidential information and matters

       ability to act in a professional manner and work well under pressure

       ability to organize, plan, and execute large-scale projects from vision through implementation

       high degree of self-motivation, commitment, and integrity

       must be willing to travel, including via commercial airline or the company airplane

       must be driven to provide excellence in customer service

       must have a positive outlook and facilitate favorable resolutions

       must have good human relations skills

       must show enthusiasm, initiative and pride in work


Preferred Qualifications: 

       Masterís Degree or PhD in Public Health or Microbiology

       five (5) or more years of regulatory experience and retail grocery experience

       National Environmental Health Associations (NEHAs) Registered Sanitarian (RS) and NEHA HACCP Manager Certification
