Nutrition Specialist and Food Labeling - Pennsylvania
Nutrition and Food
Labeling Specialist is responsible for creating nutrition facts
panels for new items, reviewing, updating and approving food product labels.
This position will develop mandatory label information and review claims to
ensure accuracy and compliance with 21 CFR 101.12(including new FSMA
regulations), state and local regulations, as well as company policy. To the
betterment of products and our brand, this position will communicate with
multiple teams dedicated to product and label development on accuracy and
compliance matters, as well as record and report to management on consumer
inquiries and concerns, label issues and compliance results.
- Review, interpret and evaluate
food product labels (to include nutrition panel, ingredient information,
food statement and health declarations and general food regulations,
etc.) to ensure accuracy.
- Obtain and verify nutritional
information with software program and/or by collecting from vendors.
- Review, interpret and evaluate
labels and packaging to ensure compliance with federal, state
- Develop mandatory label copy
which includes product name, weight statement, ingredient statement,
allergen declaration, kosher, nutrition facts panel and claims that meet
government requirements and standard of identities. This includes
ensuring compliance with all label related health and wellness claims.
- Closely inspect artwork, graphics
and text of existing and proposed product labels to ensure accuracy and
regulation compliance (to include nutrition panel, ingredient
information, food statements, health declarations, allergen information,
- Act as company expert in all
aspects of product labeling and compliance including, but not limited
to, regulatory directives on nutrition and ingredients.
- Communicates up-to-date knowledge
and interpretation of current and pending labeling regulations.
- Responsible for obtaining
USDA/FSIS label approval, temporary approvals and extensions for U.S.
products and assisting Canadian labeling team with approvals for
products exported to Canada.
- Work closely with internal departments
(Buying, Marketing, Art and Design teams) to ensure that all product
labeling and packaging plans adhere to company policy and federal
- Investigate and respond to
external (consumer) inquiries and concerns about DeLallo
product nutrition, ingredients and claims related to labeling.
- Immediately report potential
insurance claims to management.
- Collect, record and submit to
management label deficiencies, consumer concerns, compliance results,
etc. to help drive product compliance, as well as brand and product
- Maintain regulatory documentation
related to ingredients, formulations and labels to ensure compliance to
company policy and federal regulations.
- Collect, validate and maintain
nutrition information and ingredient database.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of
legal regulations, industry trends and best food labeling practices;
make recommendations to improve current programs and processes and to
ensure company legal compliance.
- Develop and update appropriate
food labeling policies and procedures as needed.
- Strong written and verbal
- Superior proofreading,
organizational, time management and analytical skills.
- Customer service and
- Must be able to operate and
maintain more than one database of information.
- Knowledge of food product
development and processes, food safety and allergens.
- Candidate should be
detail-oriented with the ability to handle multiple tasks and projects
- Communicate and collaborate
efficiently with customers, coworkers and all levels of management.
- Bachelorís degree in food
science, nutrition or related field.
- A minimum of two (2) years experience in regulatory and/or nutrition
- Experience with new FSMA labeling
- Experience with Nutrition
- Must be proficient in MS Office
(Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
- Must have a valid driverís
license without restrictions.
