Barilla America Inc. (BAI) is seeking our next Product Development Manager for our sauce portfolio to be based out our North American Headquarters in Northbrook, IL.

Reporting directly to the Vice President of Research Development and Quality for the Americas, this position has one direct report.

 

Job Purpose

Contribute to the development process of new products pertaining to the sauce category, managing product development sub projects, along with the Business Development & Innovation units.

 

Responsibilities

  1. Manage, along with Marketing/Business Development & Innovation department, the development process of new products pertaining to the assigned category, collecting information about consumers needs and market trends from BDI units and local Product Development (PD) units.
  2. Make proposals for innovative product concepts and participate, as project leader or team member, to the Phase & Gate process for product development projects, defining a broad schedule and a dedicated project team, liaising with other corporate units (such as BDI, Finance, and Supply Chain), according to company guidelines and in compliance with Barilla strategies and procedures.
  3. Manage the relationships with local PD units providing them with needed support on innovation projects related to the assigned category, monitoring effective application of global guidelines and policies at worldwide level and collecting Country-specific information about market/consumption trends affecting the assigned category, in order to support an effective implementation of product development strategies at global level.
  4. Support leadership in developing the long-term innovation roadmap for the assigned category, collecting information both externally (emerging consumers needs and market trends) and internally (available resources and insights), making proposal for potential innovative solutions and managing the prototyping process (mock-up making and  sampling) for the assigned projects, in order to support the product innovation process at global level.
  5. Manage, along with Supply Chain department and Technology, Packaging Research and Process unit, the packaging conception for the new products in the developing process, proposing packaging standards in line with the guidelines defined by leadership, to guarantee overall respect of product standards.
  6. Ensure budget management, with reference to expenses for product development projects related to the assigned category, by monitoring spending trend and implementing the appropriate measures in case of deviation from the planned and approved figures, in compliance with leadershipís operational guidelines and Barilla's policies and procedures.
  7. Contribute to the management and optimization of products portfolio for the assigned category, managing projects regarding existing products (restyling) and new products (innovation), liaising with other RDQ units and BDI, in order to support the continuous improvement process of Barilla offering through product/process innovation.  
  8. Manage direct reports with a view to promoting their motivation and professional development, allocating resources and delegating to his/her direct reports product development projects with lower complexity/strategic relevance, according to their individual characteristics and professional skills, to introduce organisational behaviours which effectively contribute to the achievement of corporate goals, including the continuous development of scientific and technical know-how.

 

Requirements

         Bachelor degree (4 year university degree) in Food Science or related; Masterís degree preferred

         8+ years of Product Development experience demonstrating increased responsibility within Food company

         Experience working for International Manufacturing Food Company preferred

         Travel domestic and Internationally up to 15% of time

         Excellent written and verbal communication skills

         Experience in project management

         Advanced analytical skills and the ability to interpret for appropriate recommendations

         Computer skills including MSOffice (Word, Excel and PowerPoint); SAP experience preferred
