POSITION SUMMARY: The Food Technologist, Commercialization is responsible for the successful scale up of products from benchtop to production. This individual shall effectively create and distribute product and production information to ensure the highest standards for food safety, regulatory requirements, and product quality at Efco Products.

PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Prioritize projects and manage timelines for product commercialization and continuous improvement
  • Oversee formula changes, procedure changes, label changes, and customer notifications of all items
  • Create batch sheets, ingredient statements, preparation instructions, and regulatory documents
  • Prepare product specifications, nutritionals, ingredient compositions, and flow charts
  • Attend production batches and ensure proper production and product testing
  • Contribute to the generation of safety and quality documentation as it pertains to SQF and HACCP
  • Interface with customers and Customer Service on product questions and documentation requests

SECONDARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Demonstrate a key leadership role in the creation and implementation of cost optimization projects and raw material risk management opportunities
  • Identify alternative suppliers for raw materials and packaging
  • Troubleshoot and optimize production formulas as needed
  • Demonstrate knowledge of quality parameters associated with the product portfolio
  • Monitor customer complaints and participate in corrective action programs
  • Reduce product deviations and utilize rework where possible
  • Learn current and new production equipment capabilities
  • Interface with vendors during on-site and off-site visits
  • Support enterprise resource planning, nutrition, and project management software solutions

TERTIARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Ideate new products, packaging, and operational solves
  • Collaborate with customers and co-packers on custom formulated products
  • Formulate and prepare lab samples of new and existing products
  • Prepare presentations to be used for internal associate training
  • Attend and exhibit at trade shows as needed
  • Attend continuing education workshops and meet with industry experts
  • Attend R&D trips for brainstorming exercises

GENERAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a Bachelorís degree in Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or related scientific field
  • 2-5 years of applicable food/beverage product development or manufacturing experience
  • Comprehensive understanding of regulatory requirements for food safety and distribution
  • Display knowledge of Domestic and International food laws and regulations
  • Demonstrate experience with HACCP, SQF, and Quality Assurance
  • Strong organization, planning, and decision-making skills
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills along with excellent computer skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently with limited supervision
  • Ability to interact with associates at all levels
  • Display punctuality in workplace attendance and project timelines
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area
  • Contact and handle food allergens as needed
  • Lift and carry packages up to fifty pounds in weight if required
