Mars Confectionary is looking for Sr. Food Safety Specialist in the Chicago, IL area.

 

The Sr. Food Safety Specialist is focused on supporting the maintenance and continuous improvement of a robust Food Safety Management program within the segment including:  conducting risk-assessments, training, validation and auditing. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the review of material and finished goods risk assessments by consulting with internal experts and reviewing technical data related to food safety topics
  • Support food safety activities associated with the Global Innovation Center campus, including the pilot plant and the Engineering and Technology Center, in establishment of food safety related programs and processes.
  • Perform training on food safety related topics
  • Lead the design HACCP process for new products
  • Support segment incident management activities by compiling incident summaries, learnings and corrective action follow up
  • Participate and provide input to the Food Safety Community of Practices

 

Key Requirements:

  • Strong experience in manufacturing (food preferred).
  • Good understanding in gum and/or confectionary technology
  • Strong project and organizational management.
  • Skilled in aligning and complex problem solving with all levels of staff.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Forward thinking, self-directed, capable of making independent actions, and ability to make complex decisions that drive business performance.        
  • Proven negotiation and problem-solving skills with all levels of staff including senior management. 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Food Science or other closely related field
  • 5 years of professional experience in quality and food safety
  • 3 years minimum experience with and knowledge of accredited quality and food safety standards and auditing, e.g. GFSI, Dutch HACCP, Codex Alimentarius, etc.
  • HACCP certification by an accredited body
  • Experience designing and implementing HACCP / Preventative Controls plans in food manufacturing facilities
  • Ability to research, read and extract relevant information from technical publications
  • Must be able to work all shifts as the business demands. 
  • Ability to lift 40 lbs. 
  • Ability to travel <20%
  • Successful Completion of a drug and background screen

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced Degree
  • Lead auditor certification in FSSC
  • 6+ years of professional experience in quality and food safety
  • 4+ years minimum experience with and knowledge of accredited quality and food safety standards and auditing, e.g. GFSI, Dutch HACCP, Codex Alimentarius, etc.
