Manager, Quality Systems and Programs (MQSP)

POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for the management of the Quality Systems & Programs at Pictsweet’s Santa Maria, CA facility. Act as the quality advocate for the plant, providing leadership for these systems and programs. Ensure that key drivers are assuring compliance to specification of incoming ingredients: in-process conditions and finished products. Work with the Santa Maria Food Safety plan team for the on-going program management of the BRC Global Standards Certification.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Submits annual budget. Monitors and adhere to budget parameters (labor, inventory, maintenance, equipment, supplies, etc.).
  • Responsible for ensuring and monitoring all quality systems in place for the production and storage of quality products manufactured at the Santa Maria facility.
  • Design, develop, implement and review quality procedures and training programs.
  • Work in collaboration with the Food Safety Manager to improve Food Safety Systems and on FDA, USDA, BRC inspection activities and customer audits.
  • Responsible to perform weekly corporate review of quality systems and completes reporting requirements as required.
  • Perform regular quality audits of IQF purchased and sister plant products supplied to the Santa Maria facility and constructively report the evaluation results to appropriate manager such as the Director of Quality, Procurement and Plant Quality/Production Management.
  • Oversee a staff of quality employees. Train, mentor and develop staff employees in their required job duties. Must enforce company policies and procedures, such as attendance, food safety, production quality, safety, GMPs, SOP’s, Employee Handbook, HACCP, etc.
  • Lead the plant Quality team. Perform a risk assessment of each process and develop the process control points to assure the production of quality food products.
  • Analyzes continuous data to measure, access, control and improve reliability of quality food products.
  • Audits the Quality System and programs monthly and responsible for follow-ups.
  • All other duties as assigned.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EXPERIENCE: A minimum of three years of food production experience demonstrating a practical understanding of food processing, quality control, HACCP, GMP, and personnel management.

EDUCATION: Must have a B.S. degree preferably in food science, or related field.

SPECIAL SKILLS: Must possess an understanding of management and leadership fundamentals. Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual English and Spanish is a plus. Must be computer proficient with spreadsheets and word-processing. Must be able to train, develop and mentor subordinate employees for future responsibilities. Must work in collegial manner with other departments to accomplish corporate objectives. Must have basic mathematical reasoning ability and a basic understanding of statistics.

Must be willing to work flexible hours, including weekends, and holidays.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position will work in an office and plant environment. Frequently, this position will be required to work in a refrigerated environment, or freezer. Occasionally, this position will be required to travel to other locations which are agricultural, or retail service, in nature.
