Coordinator, Food Safety Quality Assurance - California

Summary:

Monitors compliance of food safety quality assurance (FSQA) programs, policies, procedures and practices; works proactively to minimize the chances of physical, chemical or biological contaminants introduced through the supply chain and/or at store level; keeps Management advised of food safety issues that may affect the Company; completes store visits and inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and Company policies and procedures

Responsibilities:

  • Works with all food and foodservice related aspects of the Companyís business on a daily basis to ensure internal and external FSQA procedures are enforced
  • Completes store visits, as needed, for stores that have low Food Quality Inspection (FQI), Operational Excellence Inspection (OEI) or other type of low inspection scores; develops and implements action plans as needed to ensure compliance
  • Manages product recalls and product hold notifications; makes recommendations to Management regarding suspension of suspected defected product(s) sales
  • Collaborates with Training to develop and implement FSQA training plan(s)
  • Reviews all foodservice/food/beverage contracts and ensures all contracts contain approved FSQA language; communicates proposed changes accordingly
  • Reviews customer claims regarding FSQA issues; maintains internal database of all claims and resolves conflicts as they arise
  • Completes new supplier certification audits and inspections of existing supplierís facilities and wholesalers as needed
  • Serves as a proctor for ServSafe online exams as needed
  • Works with field and maintenance to ensure all equipment related to food safety is a priority and repaired in a timely fashion
  • Collaborates with suppliers and field on all product recalls and/or products placed on hold status
  • Keeps abreast of FSQA topics and industry trends; attends shows, conferences and/or webinars as needed
  • Completes new supplier certification audits according to Company guidelines
  • Serves as point of contact for health departments and other local jurisdictions regarding FSQA matters; maintains database for health department inspections
  • Initiates timely communication of critical events that need to be considered and/or addressed by Management
  • Maintains knowledge of regulatory changes to FSQA and monitors changes to food packaging labeling laws
  • Maintains and updates the allergen statements
  • Completes departmental report, including newsletters, as needed
  • Completes other duties, including special projects, as assigned by Management

Minimum Requirements

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelorís Degree in Marketing or other related field
  • ServSafe certified and ServSafe proctor
  • Internal/external auditor certified

Experience Requirements:

  • Previous foodservice management experience preferred

Skill Requirements:

  • Extensive knowledge and/or certification in Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)
  • Demonstrated expertise with Word, Excel, and other MS Office suite applications
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to research and resolve issues
  • Good analytical/compliance understanding
  • Good understanding of intra-department functions and operations
  • Ability to perform repeated bending, standing and reaching
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 40 pounds

Additional Requirements:

  • Available to travel up to 75% of the time, which may include overnight stays
  • Must have a valid Driverís License from the state in which the coordinator resides
  • Must maintain automotive liability insurance during course of employment
