As part of the R&D team, the Sr. Research Scientist will lead strategic programs around Health and Wellness. This individual will serve as a technical contributor and source of advanced knowledge in nutrition science for ingredient identification and formula development through commercialization, with direct responsibility for gluten free, plant-based and frozen food categories. Accountabilities include identifying, documenting and validating the appropriate ingredients, formulations and ingredient functionalities that meet product standards and requirements, including benefits and safety. The Sr. Research Scientist will interact with R&D, Packaging, Supply Chain, Nutrition Marketing and Marketing throughout their projects.



·         Identify ingredients/technology that meets current and future consumer trends prioritized by the Business.

·         Analyze research, both self-identified and studies provided by ingredient suppliers, to determine what claims are supported by science and meet the FDA/USDA standards for research studies to support claims associated with food and beverages.

·         Identify functionality and applications of ingredients, including GRAS applications as needed.

·         Work closely with Marketing, Nutrition Marketing, Consumer Insights, R&D, Operations and Sales to identify Innovation and Renovation opportunities for our brands

·         Build sustainable relationships with leading Universities globally to identify recent technology developments around Health and Wellness

·         Identify global, intellectual property that the organization can leverage for their brands

·         Develop and manage project timelines, ensuring that all project milestones are met

·         Actively participate in multiple cross-functional project teams

·         Serve as the R&D Process Subject Matter Expert on product development, novel ingredients and functionality w.r.t. nutrition and Health and Wellness

·         Position may require up to 20% travel



·         Proficient use of MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

·         Strong problem solving skills, project management, analytical and presentation skills

·         Excellent communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to interact with all company functions including R&D, Marketing, Purchasing and Operations

·         Solid technical and theoretical knowledge of food science and ingredient functionality (bench scale to pilot scale and/or full manufacturing)

·         Ability to run appropriate project plans and execute them with limited to no supervision

·         Management of multiple projects while meeting critical project milestones

·         Ability to critically evaluate study design and interpret data

·         Ability to identify and document key technologies related to Health and Wellness and leverage these technologies for our brands

·         Ability to influence others, drive for results and make complex decisions

·         Ability to make good decisions based on factual data, past experience and scientific reasoning



·         5 or more years of experience providing nutritional expertise for formula development at a food or beverage manufacturer OR Prior experience working in industry setting preferred

·         D. in Nutrition/Food Science or related field, preferred. MS considered with additional research or industry experience

·         Experience based in functional areas that interact with R&D, such as Quality Assurance, Quality Control, Manufacturing, Legal and Regulatory

·         Knowledge of nutrition science that supports any or all of the gluten free, plant-based and frozen food categories preferred
