Delicato Family Vineyards has an exciting immediate career opportunity for a General Cellar Technician in our Manteca, CA facility.

Position Purpose

Under general supervision, the Lab/Sampling Intern performs lab analyses utilizing a variety of techniques and equipment. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, wet-bench chemistry, analytical instrumentation, data entry, lab cleanliness and organization. In addition to lab responsibilities, the Intern will collect juice and wine samples from tanks and collect and record temperatures from these tanks.

Essential Duties

·        Performs chemical analysis of grapes, juice, fermenters, wine, etc...

·        Operates analytical instrumentation according to standard operating procedures.

·        Executes wine fining trials.

·        Makes standards and stock chemicals.

·        Performs data entry.

·        Monitors inventory of lab supplies.

·        Completes daily laboratory startup including calibration of certain instruments and standardization of chemicals.

·        Completes lab shutdown following the lab SOP.

·        Maintains cleanliness and organization within the lab and sampling.

·        Accurately pulls samples from tanks using zone samplers, valves, etc.

·        Collects and documents temperatures from tanks to ensure we are within regulations.

Non-Essential Duties

·        Participates in blend evaluations, tasting panels and sensory projects.

·        Maintains a strong customer service relationship with our internal customers.

Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience

·        Education:2 or 4 year degree in Chemistry, Enology, Food Science, Biology or other related science field.

·        Experience:6+ months previous analytical lab experience preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong organization skills, strong reading, writing and communication skills.  Works well independently and in a team environment.  Must be able to work rapidly and accurately, performing multiple tasks simultaneously.  Thrives well under pressure and in an exciting environment.  Proficient in desktop applications including Microsoft Office. Knowledge of Winemaking and Cellar is preferred.

Working Conditions

Work in the analytical lab in a temperature controlled environment.  Occasional exposure to fumes, gases or dust may occur.

Sampling responsibilities are spent outdoors in the elements. Working conditions may exceed 100 degrees Farenheit in summer.
