Job Description

Basic Purpose:
The Food Safety Specialist is a crucial role that supports the assurance that our manufacturing plants meet food safety requirements as outlined by the government, industry best practices, and our internal policies. This role supports day-to-day investigations at the plant as well as strategic long term programs to drive continuous improvement. This role serves as our subject matter expert for all food safety hazards with a focus on how to manage them.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Ensures compliance to the Food Safety Modernization Act through research and documentation of ingredient, product, and process hazard analyses. Responsible for providing guidance for the steps, specifications, and preventive controls used to mitigate hazards identified.
Serve as Technical Expert for scientific requirements, including educating technical network on standardized food safety requirements. Expertise will be inclusive of but not limited to the Food Safety Modernization Act, environmental monitoring, sanitation principles, sanitary design, and testing.
Maintain and monitor the effectiveness of Hain environmental monitoring programs at internal and external manufacturing locations. Outline additional testing requirements for adverse situations and provide on-site plant support for investigations as needed.
Execute internal auditing to verify effectiveness of food safety programs and external auditing to approve external laboratories.
Drive continuous improvement in Quality and Food Safety programs through upgrading and standardizing of policies.
Provide sanitation science and sanitary design expertise, including input into the design, verification, and validation of SSOPs to ensure a hygienic environment.
Lead food safety process improvements throughout the network, including the incorporation of technology to streamline processes.
Build relationships and partnerships with internal and external business partners to drive program compliance.
Assists with other projects and assignments, as needed.


Minimum Requirements:
* Minimum of three to five years of experience in a food safety capacity.
* Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Toxicology, or related scientific field; preferred Master's degree in Food Science
* Preventive Controls Qualified Individual or HACCP Certification preferred
* Strong Computer Skills, including Microsoft platforms (PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint)
