R&D Principal Scientist,
Scientific Affairs - Pharmacology/Toxicology
The position requires
ability and experience to:
- Provide professional scientific
assessments on the safety of ingredients and contaminants in a
- Generate and apply various types
of data (Quantitative Structure Activity Relationship modeling and
dietary exposure assessments) to assess the safety of new ingredients,
manufacturing processes and packaging materials throughout the product
development process from sensory trials to launch in the marketplace.
- Critically review, summarize, and
validate scientific publications to assess weight of evidence and
provide input into the design of corroborating safety studies.
- Demonstrated ability in creating
collaborative relationships with cross-functional colleagues and in
interpreting, applying and translating complex scientific data (i.e.,
analytical and toxicological) for practical business use.
- Work to identify and manage emerging
issues through active participation in internal PepsiCo task forces and
external trade associations such as the American Beverage Association
(ABA), the Flavor Extracts Manufacturers Association (FEMA) and the
International Technical Caramel Association (ITCA).
- Develop core curriculum for the
Global R&D community on how safety assessments are conducted for
food ingredients and contaminants
- Doctorate in toxicology,
pharmacology, or related life sciences; exceptional candidates with M.S.
degrees in these fields will also be considered
- Industry experience of 3 - 5
years in the consumer product goods industry is highly preferred
- Expertise in the conduct of
systematic literature reviews an safety
assessments for food contact materials (i.e., packaging) considered to
be a plus
- Demonstrated ability to interpret
wide-ranging types of scientific data and to communicate clearly and
concisely with detailed knowledge as required for different business
- Knowledge and application of the
U.S. FDA - Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS)
process as well as Prop 65 is highly desirable
- Enhanced understanding of the
global scientific arena and public perception challenges faced by our
global food businesses is a plus
