Super Store Industries - Turlock Dairy Division is a leading producer of ice cream, cultured products, and chilled juices. Our facility is Level 3 SQF certified. We currently are looking for a Sr. DIrector- Quality, Food Safety, and Technical Services to join our team for this rapidly expanding facility.

Job Summary: Super Stores Industries [SSI] is a leading manufacturer of food and beverage products. SSI manufactures and packages a wide range of products for both public and private label food and beverage companies in a variety of containers and sizes. SSI is looking for a qualified candidate who has demonstrated a proficiency in Quality System, Food Safety, and Technical Services within a GMP based food and beverage environment (chemical, pharmaceutical, or similar). Candidate must also apply a continuous improvement mindset to the business of manufacturing products in the safest, most preserving, most economical and most efficient means possible.

Essential Job Functions

  • Transform data into meaningful information by developing new metrics and define activities that will drive improvement.
  • Direct team of Managers to fully implement internal and external Manufacturing strategy for Quality, Food Safety, consumer affairs and Technical Services which includes the development and coaching of staff
  • Lead the development and execution of effective auditing programs to ensure full compliance with SSI and External customer Foods policy and procedures as related to food safety and quality assurance.
  • Ensure compliance to all federal, state and local regulatory requirements
  • Ensure that programs are in place and effectively managed to ensure preventive controls for food safety, supply chain, environmental monitoring programs, allergen controls and effective sanitation
  • Ensure that Quality Operations Plans are in place and consistently meeting SSI quality requirements
  • Ensure the appropriate maintenance and retention of all Food Safety & Quality Management System records and forms
  • Assist the QA Manager(s) and Sanitation Manager with the oversight of all sanitation cleaning programs.
  • Ensure follow up on Food Safety, Quality and Process Control issues, ensuring successful resolution including effective use of Root Cause Analyses and Corrective and Preventative Action tools
  • Lead corporate and plant driven projects related to Food Safety & Quality improvement, and commercialization
  • Ensure a safe work environment for employees
  • Communicate and maintain appropriate information with regards to product specifications, supply chains, specific programs for food safety and quality and general policy/procedure
  • Ensure participation on business teams with food safety and quality point of contact accountability for the applicable manufacturing locations
  • Support the External Manufacturers in meeting food safety and quality objectives, goals, strategies, and metrics
  • Ensure Food Safety, Quality and Process Control issues, are successfully resolved including effective use of Root Cause Analyses and Corrective and Preventative Action tools
  • Work directly with Senior Management to ensure business objectives are met for Internal and External Manufacturing with regards to quality, service and costs. Provide technical support for same
  • Oversee the development and effective implementation of all food safety, food quality, and sanitation programs and assurance of compliance to all related PFG policies, procedures, and specifications
  • Ensure compliance to all federal, state and local regulatory requirements
  • Ensure delivery of safe, quality products in a sustainable manner and with minimization of risk to the manufacturing facility and organization
  • Proactively identify potential and emerging food safety issues and develop strategies to effectively investigate and respond
  • Develop and deliver Food Safety & Quality Management System training curricula
  • Oversee the execution of all raw material, in-process, finished product and environmental testing plans.
  • Ensure the successful development and on-going execution of effective internal self-assessment auditing programs
  • Participate in all external third party audits and regulatory inspections
  • Selection and approval of External Manufacturers ensuring that they fully meet SSI requirements for food safety, sanitation and quality assurance
  • Serve as principle investigator and lead troubleshooting / root cause efforts related to microbiological challenges; design preventative solutions.
  • Serves as a technical expert for food science and microbiology matters.
  • Leads the development of specifications for raw materials and finished goods with regards to food safety and quality
  • Promotes positive change (continuous improvement) in facilities.
  • Oversees the development and review of standardized sampling and testing programs.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelorís Degree in Food Science, Chemistry or Biology is required
  • Masterís Degree in related field is preferred
  • 10+ years of experience in a food manufacturing environment
  • Experience with dairy, Culture, Juice Based Beverages, ESL Packaging
  • Experience managing to FSMA, FDA and USDA regulations
  • SQF and FSMA certified
  • PCQI certification preferred
  • Leadership experience & Ability to work both independently and as part of a team environment
  • Good collaboration and oral and written communication skills
  • Strong technical skills and attention to detail
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule
  • Extensive experience in a food/beverage manufacturing and laboratory environment, HACCP, and food safety practices
  • Ability to perform complex statistical data analysis is a must utilizing statistical process control (InfinityQS) or other software

Work Environment

  • The incumbent must have the ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time, climb stairs, and lift or carry up to 25 pounds. They must be able to work in a manufacturing factory.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

  • This is a full Ėtime Exempt position supporting a 24/7 food manufacturing facility. Schedule will vary based on the operational and training needs.

Travel

  • Travel (approximately 5%-10%)
