Casey's General Stores Corporate Headquarters in Ankeny, Iowa is seeking a Food Safety Specialist to join our Food Safety team!

The Food Safety Specialist will oversee the food safety program at the Ankeny, Iowa and Terre Haute, Indiana distribution centers. This position provides proactive leadership and instruction in the area of food safety within the distribution centers.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Driving corporate food safety strategy at the local level to mitigate food safety risk through implementation of risk based food safety preventive controls program for the Distribution segments.
  • Overseeing the implementation of Distribution Centers' food safety requirements, related policies, procedures, programs and training components.
  • Maintaining effective communication with all related departments to address identification of food safety hazards and process improvement opportunities.
  • Tracking and communicating the Food Safety Key Performance Indicators.
  • Managing HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) plans and pre-requisite programs.
  • Regularly conducting observations of food safety practices to objectively evaluate performance and provide feedback.


  • Bachelor's degree with emphasis in Environmental Health, Food Science, Biology/Microbiology, food safety or related course of study or equivalent experience in a related position, is preferred.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience working in food safety, restaurant health inspection or food service auditing in distribution center environment is desired.
  • Certified Food Safety Manager designation is recommended.
  • Knowledge of HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points), SSOPs (Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure), FDA (Food and Drug Administration) and other applicable state and local health and food safety codes and principles behind these requirements.
  • Knowledge of distribution center operations from a food safety perspective.
  • Strong applied knowledge of restaurant food safety and competent knowledge of up-to-date food safety practices is necessary.
  • Food microbiology knowledge is desired.

This position is based out of Casey's Ankeny, IA Corporate Headquarters. Work is performed in a variety of settings, including office environment, store locations and warehouse settings (including cooler and freezer) and will require the ability to sit, stand, bend, stoop as well as frequently lift products weighing up to 25 pounds. Regular travel will be required between the two facilities.
