POSITION SUMMARY: The Food Safety Specialist (FSS) provides technical support and leads implementation and verification of food safety programs as defined by corporate food safety policies.      

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned

 

  1. Serve as on-site expert to assist the facility in compliance to food safety policies and procedures. Work in collaboration with Quality Assurance team and other facility teams to implement food safety processes per food safety policies.
  2. Participate in and provides feedback for the development of global processes related to food safety. Use prepared training materials to provide education and training to facility team members.
  3. Lead implementation and verification of HACCP system in facility, including: leading HACCP team, conducting and maintaining technical and risk assessments, and maintaining HACCP system documentation.
  4. Collaborate with facility process engineers, antimicrobial vendors, and process owners to ensure processes are tested to establish limits, validated, and routinely verified for effectiveness.
  5. Provide technical expertise and support for sanitation program in facility. Attend sanitation meetings and provide recommendations and feedback. Ensure sanitation monitoring is effective, manage sanitation data, and monitor results to provide recommendations.
  6. Review results for data related monitoring of food safety systems, such as microbial data. Ensure results are maintained or recommend solutions where opportunities exist.
  7. Act as USDA primary contact within the facility.
  8. Continuously improve technical skills in food safety and understanding of microbiology, epidemiology, and food hygiene
  9. Other duties as required by management

  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

         

    • Bachelors degree in food safety, microbiology, food science, or other closely related field required, Masters preferred.
    • 3-5 years previous experience preferred. Certification in HACCP or SQF preferred
    • Intermediate skills in Excel, Word, SAP, Infinity, and Minitab
    • Advanced analytical and project management skills.
    • Knowledge of General and Microbiology Laboratory Techniques with awareness of rapid test methods
    • Knowledge of HACCP, Sanitation, GMP, Pathogen Environmental Monitoring, and Facility/Equipment Design
    • Awareness of food safety and quality systems/processes/auditing
    •  Ability to coordinate resources
    • Experience with validation of Critical Control Points (CCPs)
    • Fundamental knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS)
    • Excellent Communication skills (presentation, report writing)
