Nestle Product Technology Centre Ice Cream located in Bakersfield California is the global center for excellence in Ice Cream and frozen desserts!

We are currently seeking for an Associate Food Technologist that will be responsible for creating and conducting experiments in the areas of Chocolates, Compounds/Ice Cream coatings & its application to ice cream products. Support projects under Discover & Develop stream to deliver Innovation & Renovation of Ice Cream Coatings in terms of products/processes/systems from inception through all stages of development.

Successful candidate will be offered a 3-Year contract and company benefits.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:     

  • Provide scientific and technical background of confectionary area to improve existing ice cream coatings portfolio while supporting innovations.
  • Integration of knowledge of the field of chocolate/compounds to Ice Cream Coatings & its applications
  • Support long-term coating strategy. Timely & efficient handling of projects and activities that drives strategy
  • Perform literature search, develop formulae, processes & conduct bench top / Pilot Plant experiments to deliver project results
  • Build relationship and communication with key stakeholders (i.e., Nestle Research Center, Product Technology Center, Strategic Business Unit, Markets, Corporate Function, vendors)
  • Present/publish/protect important project results to R&D, Markets and SBUs together with team members (R&D report, notes, patents, etc…) and maintain proper documentation records
  • Give technical support to Markets and regional pool requests (following the framework of technical assistance), and provide support to other PTC projects when required
  • Participate in expert networks within the Nestlé R&D community
  • Contribute to knowledge development in the field of expertise. Contact and collaborate with suppliers & university to broaden knowledge and propose new opportunities.
  • Initiate new ideas, propose raw materials/process/products/systems for new projects
  • Create & foster team spirit.
  • Fulfill each of the tasks described above respecting the requirements of the quality management system, food safety, safety of personnel and the environment as applicable in NPTC Bakersfield and aligned with Nestle policies
  • Perform all other duties as assigned

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

This position will report directly to Science & Technology Lead.

SUPERVISION GIVEN:

This position does not have any direct reports. One should be able to lead/mentor team members in projects that he/she is leading.

- BS in Food Science or Food Engineering (confectionary concentration) with 3 years of industry experience required or MS in Food Science or Food Engineering (confectionary concentration) with 1 year of industry experience required

- Experience in confectionary industry/operations is a must

- Excellent oral and written communication skills

- Project management and problem solving skills desired

- Basic knowledge of ISO 22000/Quality/HACCP/Food Safety/GMP preferred
