Quality Systems / Food Safety Manager, SQF Practitioner

Undercover Chocolate Co. (www.undercoverchocolate.com), is a rapidly growing food company based in East Hanover, New Jersey. We manufacture delicious, better-for-you snacks, including Undercover Quinoa, that is taking the world by storm. We are currently looking for a Quality Systems Manager for our new state-of-the-art 12,000 sf, soon to be SQF-3 Level manufacturing facility.

The Quality Systems Manager is responsible for implementing and managing process control systems and preventative actions; manages HARPC and Regulatory compliance issues; this includes quality and food safety issues that are controlled by SOPs, SSOPs, HARPC or other pre-requisite programs; and develops employees through education, training, monitoring and mentoring.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Food Safety, Quality Assurance, Quality Control leader in the organization. Ensure that the company is compliant with all regulations and that the company is working to continually improve its practices.
  • Develop and maintain the HARPC Program as the HARPC Team Leader.
  • Lead HARPC, SQF, Organic, Gluten-Free, Non-GMO, Nut Free, Halal and Kosher certification and regulatory compliance.
  • Implement, maintain and review standard operating procedures (SOPs) and sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs) and protocols.
  • Champion the education and training of personnel on all food safety practices and standards including employee training of GMPs, Food Defense, Sanitation, Allergen Controls and HACCP.
  • Work with management team to implement and improve the food safety quality system. Provide guidance on best practices through the entire supply chain and through delivery to the customer.
  • Manage document control to ensure accuracy of all policies and procedures. Ensure compliance, and record keeping for all mandated quality checks, testing, sampling, and sanitation activities.
  • Create and monitor business metrics to track compliance and process effectiveness. Execute internal and external food safety audits.
  • Leverage technology to manage compliance processes.
  • Lead root cause analysis and corrective and preventive action plans for all quality and customer complaint issues.
  • In partnership with sanitation teams, provides coaching and guidance to the environmental monitoring program.
  • Maintain current knowledge of trends and changes affecting food safety to make recommendations for appropriate program changes to ensure governmental compliance.
  • Incorporate food safety industry best practice into product handling processes for receipt, storage, transportation and disposal of food.
  • Support each department through application of corrective and preventive actions, training and a continuous improvement process.

Education and Skills Required:

  • 3 + years of experience managing Quality and Food Safety in manufacturing or food packaging environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of US food manufacturing including GMPs, SOPs, HACCP, SQF, FSMA readiness and compliance, auditing and inspections as well as environmental guidelines.
  • Food Safety Program leadership experience working in a facility certified at SQF 2 or SQF 3. Must have led or been an intricate participant in a level 2 SQF audit.
  • Bachelorís degree in food science, microbiology or food process engineering a plus.
  • Auditing and product recall experience is a plus.
  • Experience interacting with the local Department of Health and other state and federal regulatory agencies.
  • Exceptional organization skills. Works with precision.
  • Strong ability to handle complexity and judgment in order to quickly problem solve and make judicious decisions regarding product quality and safety.
