The Role:
The FSQA Team is looking for a Food Safety & Quality Assurance Manager

Work as a strategic partner with the Bakery General Manager, other managers, and bakery leadership team to assure compliance with applicable quality, food safety and regulatory standards at the Indianapolis bakery. Primary responsibilities is to be the FSQA voice on the bakery leadership team and lead the FSQA and Sanitation Teams in implementing and maintaining food safety practices as required by SQF.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Ensure personal safety, food safety and quality protocols are followed.
  • Work with Clif Bar teams to develop and maintain quality systems, which include noncompliance, HACCP, GMPs, product review, and internal audits.
  • Be a food safety and quality assurance strategic partner to Clif Bar owned and operated facilities by supporting standardize food safety and quality programs.
  • Develop both short term and long term food safety and quality and sanitation strategies, such as cost savings strategies.
  • Develop and manage annual FSQA budget for the bakery.
  • Support and represent the bakery with government agencies, vendors, customers, and recall activities.
  • Responsible for raising food safety and quality concerns to a level of priority to keep HQ teams and other bakery leadership members informed and lead in an action plan as appropriate.
  • Assure that all raw materials, process parameters, sanitation procedures, and finished products comply with Company standards. Work with suppliers to address any non-compliance issues.
  • Manage and audit quality programs and maintain proper documentation including reporting of non-compliance information.
  • Investigate consumer and customer complaints and provide written communication regarding root cause and opportunities for improvement.
  • Lead Continuous Improvement and Corrective Action/Preventive Action activities.
  • Assure that HACCP/HARPC plans are fully implemented and monitored for all production lines. Include supporting the training of team members in appropriate areas (non-compliance, metal detection, and other prerequisite programs).
  • Ensure robust prerequisite programs are in place, understood by all personnel, and are effective. Validation and verification are expected. Programs to include environmental monitoring, allergen control, GMP's, HACCP/HARPC, as well as other prerequisite programs.
  • Coordinate the implementation of an effective integrated pest management program. Manage any contracted pest management personnel to ensure proper licensing and schedule compliance.
  • Manage FSQA and Sanitation operations to ensure continuous compliance with all applicable standards.
  • Lead and participates in internal and external audits to ensure Clif Bar standards are met.
  • Manage organic compliance program for the bakery.
  • Work with site Safe Quality Foods Practitioner, to develop, implement, validate, verify, and maintain the SQF prerequisite, food safety, and food quality systems for the bakery.
  • Perform all other related duties as requested.

Technical Expertise Required

  • Ability to identify food safety and quality issues, obtain relevant data, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Expert knowledge of HACCP/HARPC, GMP's, and quality systems in a low moisture food manufacturing environment.
  • Understand FDA and local regulatory requirements for food safety and quality.
  • Strong knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite programs.
  • Training skills with the ability to develop own curriculum.
  • Experience in writing standard operating procedures, work instructions, and forms for a Safe Quality Foods manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with previous manufacturing plant or line start-ups a strong plus.
  • Working knowledge of National Organic Program, Kosher, and Rain forest Alliance implementation and compliance.

Education/Training Required

  • Minimum of 4 year B.S. degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in food manufacturing business in Quality Assurance or production environment.
  • Minimum of 5 years' management experience or supervisory equivalent.
  • SQF Practitioner certification preferred.
  • PCQI certification preferred.
  • Lean/Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • HACCP certified.
