QUALTIY ASSURANCE AND FOOD SAFETY

  • FISMA and PC: Develop and document Preventive Controls (PCQ) and FISMA specifically for USDA and Acidified Foods
  • Customer and consumer complaints feedback: Review and advise (in addition to closing out) on corrective actions for Food Safety, Quality, Regulatory.
  • Responsible for developing, validating and improving Good Manufacturing Practices, Food and Personnel Hygiene auditing food safety practices
  • Coordinate all Purchasing activities, Supplier Approval, approvals for changes of vendors, ingredients, packaging.
  • Manage and train procurement quality for specifications related to new or changed ingredients.
  • Conduct vendor audits for qualifying new vendors or close out corrective actions.
  • Recall: Recall Coordinator and management of recall system
  • Management of all quality dispositions for product manufactured at facility and all ingredients (approval, rejection, QA Holds)

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE:

  • Liaison with the USDA, FDA, ODA and other regional or local inspectors.
  • Technical Writing requirement for technical reports and updates to policies

MAINTAIN PLANT CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS:

  • Identity Preserved Foods as required by Plant Policies:
  • SQF Practitioner
  • Gluten Free/Non-GMO

PRODUCTION AND OPERATIONS:

  • Ensure that adequate protocol is developed for proper maintenance for quality assurance
  • Ensure that a dual sign-off for product at the kettle is compliant with both culinary and target measurements
  • Provide real-time guidance during food processing to product developers and plant staff
  • Manage any problems and/or deviations that may affect the integrity of the product or data and organize and participate in corrective actions
  • Set up the laboratory operation and maintenance of instrumentation and the execution of routine and non-routine analytical methods in the plant laboratory and production environments
  • Manage all environmental monitoring, testing, plant hygiene and zoning, and bacterial testing for facility and product(s).
  • Work with and Maintain a yearly Budget for Quality and Indirect (Operations)

QUALITY ASSURANCE MANAGEMENT:

  • Hire, train, schedule and manage quality assurance staff
  • Develop and coach quality staff daily as well as administer annual reviews
  • Assist in the development of short and long term quality control objectives and development of quality protocols for new and existing productsSANITATION MANAGEMENT:
  • Give Guidance to sanitation supervisor to develop and coach sanitation staff
  • Oversee the master sanitation programs at the facility
  • Oversee the overall cleanliness of the facility
  • Monitor pest control documentation manage program. Initiate and close corrective actions for pest control.
  • Validate Sanitation Preventive Controls for use with regulatory compliance systems.

RESEARCH AND DEVLEOPMENT:

  • Provide data to R&D for production level quality control and quality assurance production ranges
  • Manage all specifications from R&D to production and coordinate the transfer of information for successful scale up operations.
  • Work in conjunction with R/D on regulatory processes.
  • Give guidance to R&D team for nutritional, plant quality objectives and give training to R&D

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Food Science/Food Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related field essential
  • 5-10 years’ Quality Assurance/Control experience in a Food Manufacturing required with 3-5 years’ of leading/managing a quality team
  • General knowledge and experience working with FISMA & Preventative Controls
  • Must have knowledge and experience working with third party auditors (SQF, QAI, etc.)
  • Experience working with sanitation and in-line process control preferred
  • Must have Advanced mathematical skills
  • Capable of lifting with both hands items weighing in excess of 50 pounds if necessary
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information to a broad audience
