Position Summary: Food Safety Coordinator- HACCP

Food safety coordinator job is responsible for ensuring that the company they are working for are following health and safety guidelines relevant to the food industry. They assist the manager in making sure that the organization is on track to be an incident-free workplace. Aside from working under the manager, the coordinator is also responsible for completing forms related to injury and illness prevention. They will also look at corrective actions. The coordinator will have the responsibility of educating managers and supervisors on proper food safety. They also maintain training documentation, audits, and meetings. The food safety coordinator is part of an overall team that will do work on behalf of the safety manager/Sr Sous. The HACCP Coordinator leads the organizationís effort to develop its HACCP Plan and to develop, implement, and maintain a HACCP System. The HACCP Coordinator may also be responsible for managing OSHA safety programs.

Duties and Responsibilities: Food Safety Coordinator-HACCP

A Food Safety Coordinator-hazard analysis critical control point (HACCP) coordinator ensures that the food produced by their organization is safe for consumption; they do this using their in-depth knowledge of food safety rules and regulations at the local, state and federal levels. Typically, a HACCP coordinator works in an establishment to ensure the HACCP food safety management system is in place and effective; they may work on their own or as part of a HACCP team.Develop and implement safety procedures and protocols.

  • Review and verify paperwork for regulatory and internal compliance.
  • Train and certify employees in procedures, protocols and quality steps.
  • Resolve safety issues, and identify root causes and recommend changes.

Defined Departmental Duties:

Safety Training-

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration requires that employers provide safety training on several topics. These topics include foodborne illness prevention plans, food safety protection, and hazardous materials communication. Safety coordinators deliver this training and document that each employee has completed the requirements. A safety coordinator may also administer post-training tests or review training feedback from employees.

Safety Inspections

Conducting safety inspections helps identify workplace hazards and correct them before they cause accidents. A safety coordinator may conduct these inspections alone or as part of a group that includes managers and supervisors.


OSHA requires most employers to complete form 300, titled the log of work-related injuries and illnesses. A safety coordinator has to determine whether an injury or illness meets the recordkeeping requirements issued by OSHA, then fill in the relevant information for each incident. Safety coordinators also ensure that safety-related training records, accident reports, and other documents are completed and stored properly.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of food safety and sanitation.
  • Knowledge of Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles.
  • Knowledge with Training on Safety Topics
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in HACCP & OSHA
  • Comprehensive knowledge of HACCP, GMPís, and GAPís
  • Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree a plus!
  • Valid Driverís License.
