Job Description:

Provides proactive leadership and strategic vision in building a culture of Food Safety across the organization. Responsible for mitigating food safety risk by driving corporate food safety strategy, consistency and alignment across divisions. Leads implementation of all aspects of the food safety programs including, but not limited to, policies, procedures, regulatory requirements and training. Participates in Food Safety & Compliance Steering Committee


Position Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and strategic vision to compliance and food safety programs across the organization. Promotes continuous improvement strategies, especially in the world of changing regulations.
  • Proactively leads team in the development of systems, knowledge, capabilities, and practices in order to comply with all applicable food safety regulations, company procedures and for process/systems/regulatory audits (such as customer, GSFI, Regulatory and certifier).  
  • Promotes the development and implementation of programs for conducting risk assessments, verification, validation and monitoring of effectiveness of food safety plans, company food safety procedures and regulations for current processes and new line and equipment commissioning.
  • Monitors emerging issues related to food safety and quality and leads development and implementation of strategies, policies and procedures to mitigate. Delivers expertise and technical advice on complex and critical food safety concerns. Reports on developments, strategies and implementation to Food Safety & Compliance Steering Committee.
  • Leads the development of orientation programs and annual training of plant personnel with respect to GFSI, GMP, HACCP, and PCQI requirements.
  • Communicates prioritization and status of initiatives to organizational leadership to ensure timelines and compliance dates are met.
  • Coaches, mentors and supports professional development of employees. Coordinates work and sets priorities to meet objectives. Manages budget.
  • Promotes consistency and aligns across divisions where possible.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in food production, food safety and quality
  • HACCP certification, SQF practitioner and PCQI certification preferred.
  • Experience with a range of food processing systems such as acidification, retort, tetra, direct or indirect heat treated, milling, etc.
  • Experience with food safety systems such as HACCP, GFSI, and preventive controls theory and methodology, product traceability, and third party audits.
  • Experience managing multiple, remote locations and leading thru influence
  • Experience providing supervision, guidance, effective training and counsel to others.
  • Ability to understand and analyze issues involving food manufacturing, project management, technical and legal documents and schematics.
  • Ability to understand food and environmental regulations and their impact on the organization, and our customers.
  • Strong organizational, communication and collaboration skills



Bachelor’s Degree Required – Type: Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology or related scientific field.


Travel: 30-50%
