Provide leadership, direction, and day-to-day support to ensure all CHG facilities meet food safety laws, federal, state and local regulatory requirements, customer requirements and GSFI standards. Responsible for the continued effectiveness and improvement of CHG’s Quality and Food Safety policies and programs, including development and implementation of new systems in response to changes in the business objectives, regulations and customer requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership to QA Managers to maintain a robust Food Safety and Quality Management System.
  • Mentors, coaches and develops CHG’s Food Safety & Quality Systems team members.
  • Works closely with the manufacturing facilities and across functions to implement effective continuous improvement methodologies across the business to improve Food Safety.
  • Responsible for CHG Food Safety and Quality Policies development and maintenance.
  • Provides support to the FSQA team in to utilize appropriate methodology to identify root causes and associated CAPA related to customer concerns, third party audits, regulatory requirements and plant identified non-conformance's to prevent re-occurrences.
  • Works & communicates directly with customers and regulatory agencies to understand needs & concerns and translates those into improvements at the plant level.
  • Participate in audits (internal, customer, 3rd party and regulatory) to) to ensure that all CHG facilities are audit ready at all times and adhere to an effective sanitation programs to ensure food safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Serves as Technical Coordinator to the corporate recall team
  • Works with Engineering, Operations, and Product Development to ensure that any process changes in the facilities is documented, robust and will not adversely affect the overall food safety performance of the process or products.
  • Reviews and analyzes data and information to present to Senior Management.
  • Functions as the subject matter expert on food hazards (i.e. microbiological, physical, chemical)their analysis and their preventive controls, and on the research, development, audit and enhancement of food safety plans and critical/preventive control points.
  • Leads the interaction with Regulatory officials and academia with the goal of enhancing relationships and rapport with those entities.
  • Performs other related and assigned duties as necessary.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time

Minimum Job Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Regulatory Compliance or a related field or an equivalent work history in those disciplines.


  • 10 years’ experience in Food Manufacturing environment including quality and food safety systems

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret FDA regulatory postings from the various government agencies in which CHG conducts business
  • Working knowledge of food processing and handling equipment·
  • Knowledge of GFSI certified standards
  • Must have a good understanding of laboratory testing and practices
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Must have computer literacy to operate standard word processing, spreadsheets, presentation and ERP software
  • GMP’s
  • Excellent understanding of food Manufacturing concepts and techniques
  • Excellent working knowledge of Sanitation programs for the control and compliance of food safety requirements
  • Excellent working knowledge of food Safety audit concept and techniques
  • Food Quality and Food Safety Systems audit concept and techniques
  • Knowledge and experience with Continuous Improvement Methodology (TPM, Six Sigma, SPC)
  • FSPCA PCQI Certified
  • GFSI (SQF, BRC) certified

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervisory responsibilities include monitoring the performance of Food Safety staff (Regulatory Specialist and Quality and Food Safety Systems Manager) as well as indirect dotted line responsibility for the performance of the operations sanitation team leaders. These responsibilities include making final decisions, disciplinary actions; development and evaluation of work objectives and their effectiveness; and realigning food safety associate’s assignments as necessary.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work involves daily exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, extreme temperatures, humidity, darkness, and/or noise
  • Work environment involves daily exposure to physical risks, such as working around mechanical, chemical, and electrical hazards
  • Position requires the ability to stand; sit at a desk; walking around office and plant; lifting and carrying packages up to 50 pounds; utilizing fine dexterity; and reaching, kneeling, crawling and twisting to inspect equipment. Also requires the ability to see; hear; and communicate by utilizing professional etiquette with all levels of employees and with external vendors
  • Personal protective equipment, as defined by C.H. Guenther and Son, will be provided


  • Must be willing to relocate to support business needs.
