Job Description

Overview:

The purpose of the Food Safety and Quality Coordinator position is to collect, analyze and report data about product quality and food safety and will assist in implementing management plans of corrective action to maintain company quality standards and regulatory compliance. This position works on quality and food safety-related projects with direction from the Director of Quality Assurance.

Description/Essential Job Functions

  • Audit production and packaging processes to ensure compliance with product specifications.
  • Responsible for handling quality and food safety issues.
  • Perform and record daily GMP audits throughout the facility.
  • Assist with quality and food safety training of production personnel.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the production, sanitation, maintenance, shipping and receiving departments to verify SOPs.
  • Help ensure compliance with HACCP, SQF and FSMA standards.
  • Isolate and hold substandard ingredients and finished goods.
  • Monitor ingredient storage warehouse for proper rotation and usage of materials.
  • Capable of performing Trace/Recall on all materials for potential recall at any time.
  • Assist R&D with special testing and containment of test products.
  • Perform environmental sampling and work closely with microbiology laboratory personnel by providing samples for micro testing.
  • Assist in all third party audits.
  • Monitor all aspects of the Allergen Program including continual training, awareness, and segregation of materials to prevent cross contamination.
  • Help prepare and implement training materials.
  • Document review and control.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements/Other Skills/Abilities

  • Bachelorís degree in Food Science preferred or equivalent working experience
  • Ability to work any shift as needed, including irregular shifts or occasional weekends.
  • Strong understanding of food safety and product quality systems.
  • Experience or certification in FSMA, PCQI, SQF Practitioner or any GFSI audit experience.
  • Food Safety Regulatory experience.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Good independent decision making capabilities.
  • Effective communication skills, written and oral.
  • Good listening skills.
  • Strong problem-solving skills including root cause identification and resolution.
  • Proven ability to work with variety of people with differences in communication and learning styles.
  • Ability to set priorities and plan ahead required.
  • Working familiarity with MS Office Products required.
  • Bilingual (English and Spanish) a plus.
