Ankeny Cold Storage/ Ankeny Processing Services, a locally owned meat processor and cold storage, is looking for a qualified, responsible, energetic individual to join our team in the role of Quality Control/Food Safety/HACCP Supervisor. Role:

Our QC/FS Supervisor is responsible for leading the quality control and food safety programs at our facility to ensure all raw materials and finished products conform to our company, customer, and USDA quality and wholesomeness standards as well as supervise all plant quality, food safety, HACCP, and related systems to ensure processes are followed, continually improved, and developed (where necessary).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This is not intended to be an all-inclusive list. Other duties and responsibilities will be a part of this position, and will be discussed during the interview process.

  • Oversee all Food Safety, Quality Assurance, HACCP, SSOP, and Regulatory programs and functions, verifying that are functioning as designed, being followed and correctly documented, thus insuring the safe and wholesome production of products to meet Ankeny Cold Storage, itís customers, and USDA specifications and standards.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and validate the companyís HACCP Program, train department managers and Quality Control/Food Safety Technicians.
  • Maintain current knowledge of HACCP and food safety related regulations.
  • Directly supervise all QC/FS staff, including staff scheduling, work allocation, and performance management.
  • Along with Ankeny Cold Storage senior management team, act as primary contact for the USDA Inspector on site and other food regulatory agencies.
  • Act as technical representative for all in-house audits by customers, 3rd party auditors, and other regulatory agencies.
  • Schedule and/or test raw materials, in-process materials, and finished products for in-process or finished product requirements, or other tests as required in a timely manner.
  • Review and approval of manufacturing batch records, and investigation of any process deviations that have occurred.
  • Ensure Quality-related plant investigations (off-specification product, customer complaints, environmental issues, etc.) are completed and include appropriate corrective actions.
  • Coordination of the disposition of off specification product.
  • Maintain customer product specifications and assist in evaluation of new customer specifications.
  • Analyze and trend finished product data as a tool for evaluation of the current manufacturing process and the ability to meet finished product specifications.
  • Review and approval of any process or product specification change that is requested.
  • Responsible for ensuring Product Formulas and Batch Records are current, and are created as new products are developed.
  • Assist management team in the resolution of customer complaints.
  • Provide support to R&D and technical support as needed.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • General knowledge of meat processing, manufacturing and quality control procedures.
  • Ability to learn and comprehend a wide variety of processing methods to assure compliance with established processing procedures.
  • Technical ability to conduct established product inspections and testing methods, including instrumentation testing for protein, moisture, fat, sediment, and microbiological test for standard plate count, in addition to other tests as required.
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex information, both orally and in writing.
  • Accuracy in filling out paperwork and recording data, including testing data.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, respectfully, and tactfully with upper management, plant personnel, sales staff, customer service and other internal and external customers.
  • Ability to operate basic plant, lab, and office equipment, including computers, telephones, fax machines, and copiers.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of company information when required.
  • Ability to work daily, weekends, and extended hours as necessary.
  • Ability to assist other work-related areas, as required.
  • Ability to learn and operate windows environment software, such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to stand; walk; move about the facility, climb ladders, wear all safety equipment.
  • Must be able to work in production and refrigerated environments, where temperatures and noise levels vary. Work environment includes a normal office environment as well as climate extremes found in a perishable food plant.

Job Qualifications

Education & Experience:

Bachelorís Degree in meat science, food science, or other related field with two to three years related work experience in a food-processing environment. High School Diploma or GED, and/or an AS degree in a science field with three to six years may provide an equivalent combination of education and experience.
