Food Safety and Quality Compliance Coordinator - Orrville, OH

This position will serve as the primary point of contact for SmithFoods Inc. Food Safety Quality (FSQ) compliance information needed by our customers and sales staff. The FSQ Compliance Coordinator is responsible for documenting and tracking compliance for internal, regulatory, third party, and existing customers. This position will also manage supply chain FSQ controls seeing that information from our suppliers is updated and accurate for all SmithFoods facilities.

Departmental Duties:

  • Serve as the primary contact handling requests for FSQ information by customers and sales staff. Be able to access and use customer portals.
  • Maintain a customer requirements matrix for SmithFoods customers based on corporate requirements and contracts
  • Ensure that SmithFoods is meeting all requirements outlined in the customer requirements matrix
  • Serve as primary FSQ contact with suppliers of ingredients, packaging, materials and finished goods
  • Manage Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) supply chain preventative controls and SQF controls related to supplier information such as supplier audits, registrations, Certificates of Analysis (COA’s) and other supporting documents
  • Conduct CoA audits and testing required to verify compliance
  • Manage the reconciliation of receiving documents with CoA’s for every lot of ingredients/material received
  • Work with Product Development and Supply Chain management to review all new suppliers, materials, and ingredients. Provide FSQ approval/denial and sign off accordingly on all new suppliers, ingredients and packaging after a complete food safety and fraud history review. Assure risk based CoA information is received for all new ingredients.
  • Work with Quality Managers to update FSQ documents as needed for all new suppliers, ingredients, and packaging. Provide other FSQ support to facility teams as needed.
  • Manage the Economic Food Fraud program for SmithFoods
  • Handle all needed export documentation
  • Keep current on information and technology as related to FMSA, SQF, and customer requirements to ensure compliance
  • Support quality playbook compliance and overall FSQ improvement
  • Maintain needed supplier records related to FSQ information; Kosher, Halal, GMO, Certifications of Insurance, Bio Terrorism, etc.
  • Manage Prop. 65 compliance information for SmithFoods
  • Provide coverage for Quality Assurance Managers as needed
  • Ensure retain samples needed for compliance of private label and contract packaging are being maintained
  • Manage Food Safety Quality (FSQ) projects as assigned
  • Other duties as required

- Thorough knowledge of the principles of food safety, GMPs, SQF, HAACP, FSMA and sanitation

  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft product suite
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Compliance with all company and regulatory policies/guidelines relating to food safety and food quality
  • At ease in fast-paced and dynamic environment
  • Must be insurable by company standards
  • Able to maintain confidentiality
  • Excellent record keeping

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Able to lift up to 20 lbs.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

  • Monday through Friday, minimum 45 hours per week
  • Additional hours and days (Holidays/weekends) as required to meet workload


  • Travel estimated at 25%

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, food science or related field
  • One to three years of work experience in Food Science, Quality Assurance or related experience
