Purpose

 

This position leads the Food Safety programs for the manufacturing site to ensure the Food Safety Management System is effective at mitigating food safety risks and ensuring product safety, regulatory and customer requirements are met in compliance with Mars Global Quality and Food Safety Standards. Establishes and leads the project management and continuous improvement for their designated site Quality & Food Safety (Q&FS) Management systems that enable the reliable delivery of products that meet all external legislative requirements and all internal Quality &Food Safety global standards. Provides the site with all Food Safety updates and training.


Responsibilities

 

• Development & deployment of food safety training to the site and support functions (HACCP, Basic Food Safety)
• Provides governance to the Microbiological verification, environmental program, Mycotoxin, Cleaning and Sanitation programs
• Provides governance to HACCP and Food Safety Plan within the site, provide input to the Value stream Food safety Plans part of the Food Safety Team, manage validation of CCP/OPRP (Preventive Controls) programs within the site
• Responsible for providing site input to the Material Risk Assessments (MRA’s)
• Leads root cause analysis investigation of food safety incidents and effective implementation of corrective/preventive actions
• In partnership with the Value Stream Lead represent R&D at change management and handover meetings to ensure Food Safety deliverables
• Translates external food safety requirements such as regulations or customer needs into procedures or best practices for the site


Scope

 

• The ability to deliver high quality results, is critical to success of this role and is achieved through strong functional scientific knowledge and influencing others. The role is expected to interfaces outside of Q&FS with Supply (Operations, Reliability, Engineering, and Supplier Quality Assurance), PPI and Packaging R&D along with external networks.
• The role partners with supply and the Q&FS team to drive continual improvement of food safety programs through robust risk assessments, clear procedures and work instructions, trending and reporting, creation and delivery of food safety training.
• The role facilitates effective implementation of Mars and regulatory requirements through coordinating “steering team” activities to enable timely implementation into the supply pipeline


Qualifications


Education

Minimum:
• BS degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Engineering, Chemistry or related technical field and internship in quality and food safety in a manufacturing environment or equivalent industry experience
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities in leading/influencing others
• Ability to travel 10% of the time

 

Preferred:
• BS degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Engineering, Chemistry or related technical field and
• 2+ years of experience in different quality related areas such as raw materials, distribution, manufacturing or
• 2+ years of experience in a manufacturing site managing quality and food safety management systems responsible position related to food safety or Quality and food safety management system
• Demonstrated leadership capabilities in leading/influencing others
• Ability to travel 10% of the time

 

Knowledge/Experience


• Food safety risk, identification and management, HACCP and prerequisite controls
• Knowledge of and experience with ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management Systems
• Knowledge of GMP, GLP, food allergens, pest control, sanitation, and food safety regulations
• Experience with GFSI Quality Systems such as SQF, BRC, FSSC22000, ISO9000 or ISO17025
• Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
• Leadership within a team and ability to lead change
