Job Summary

Our busy food and beverage, R&D and new product development laboratory is currently seeking part time assistants to the Executive R&D Chef. Duties include, putting together samples of already created formulas for buyers, organizing, maintaining, and keeping up the ingredient database and supply maintenance, sample evaluation and more. College students or graduates with Chemistry, Biology, Food Science or other Science backgrounds will be considered. We will train the right candidates.

Ideal Candidate: Organized, excellent communication skills, pays attention to detail, remembers what they were trained on, takes notes and stays on top of tasks without being reminded or asked.

Keeps detailed records of their assignments and is able to communicate progress to Chef well.

Job Type: Part-time

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Refer to list of needed ingredients on a day-to-day basis and check inventory
  • Acquire ingredients not available in storage prior to the start of the day
  • Communicate with Executive Chef daily
  • Prepare ingredients and/or samples instructed by Chef
  • Assist head chef in cooking dishes according to testing
  • Monitor ingredient pricing and source from vendors according to details specifications provided
  • Make arrangements to get or store ingredients from warehouse and maintain accurate records
  • Rotate items as standardized in the kitchen rule book
  • Hand ingredients and utensils to head chef during food preparation activities
  • Maintain kitchen order by ensuring cleanliness of tables, counters and work areas
  • Oversee cleanliness and maintenance of kitchen equipment and utensils
  • Operate kitchen equipment such as ovens for cooking purposes
  • Maintain accurate pricing and work with nutrition software program to create nutrition labels
  • Have daily updates for the Chef and excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Deal with vendors

Qualifications and Skills

Entry level position, ideal for a candidate that wants to learn and grow within a pleasant yet fast paced environment.

Food science bachelors degree or relevant bachelors degree mandatory.

Possible degrees appropriate for this position: food science/technology, food/chemical engineering, biochemistry, nutrition, microbiology or chemistry.

Food industry work experience needed.

Beneficial: Possession of a food-related postgraduate qualification.
