Research & Development Technologist - River Falls, WI

R&D Technologist II will create new and modify existing cookie and bar offerings for Rise Baking Company, functioning as the subject-matter expert in the research and development of system processes for product commercialization.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborate with Sales throughout product development lifecycle to create high quality, innovative, cost and operationally effective products that appeal to customers
  • Create timelines and manage multiple projects to completion involving product development, product improvement, product matching, and cost reduction in accordance with Company priorities
  • Troubleshoot and resolve various technical project challenges with the support of the R&D Manager
  • Oversee the labís daily tasks and activities in the absence of the R&D Manager
  • Assist the R&D Manager in managing Innovation projects and updating Sales, upon request
  • Receive, organize, and process sample requests
  • Organize and complete shelf life evaluations including organoleptic assessments
  • Support New Item Setups including plant tests and pilot runs, ensuring the migration of products from one facility to another occurs with rigor and high quality
  • Document and draw conclusions/next steps from experimental results or production trials
  • Support plants in troubleshooting product issues, such as ingredient substitutions, product specification issues, IFS documentation updates, etc.
  • Further knowledge in new materials, processes, and equipment to enhance the technical understanding of the R&D team
  • Represent R&D in absence of the R&D Manager and VP of R&D and collaborate with team members in various departments including Marketing, Finance, Operations, Quality Control, Procurement, as well as with comanufacturers, existing and potential customers, etc.
  • Support food safety program, quality standards, and legality of products manufactured in the facility
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Qualifications (Education/Experience)

  • Bachelorís degree in food science or related field with 1-3 years of food science experience
  • 2-4+ years in R&D product development, food and/or beverage industry
  • Experience with facilitating all stages of the product development life cycle
  • Understanding of manufacturing equipment, their processes, and capabilities
  • Knowledge of product formulations and modification techniques
  • Strong passion for science, creative problem solving, and product development
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Detail oriented with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently, organize and prioritize, show flexibility, and multi-task to execute simultaneous projects and activities to meet objectives and deadlines
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving and constantly evolving high growth environment

Job Type: Full-time

Experience:

  • food science: 3 years (Preferred)
  • R&D Product Development: 3 years (Preferred)

Education:

  • Bachelor's (Preferred)
