The Food Technologist
manages the design/plan/validation and implementation of new products, line
extensions, product improvement and technical service for Riverbend Foods
that meet customer product offering requirements.
- Manage product development
projects to include: formulation development, bench top testing,
sensory evaluation, obtaining and evaluating new raw materials
(ingredients) as applicable, documenting all testing undertaken within
the project and the results (both internal and customer
- Performs complex technical
assignments with high value to the company under general direction
(overall objective achievement).
- Develop information for and
issue product specifications, ingredient specifications, in-process
control points and testing requirements.
- Exhibits a strong understanding
of existing systems, business functions and new technologies.
- Lead technical expertise on
cross-functional project teams and technical oversight of internal and
external manufacturing start-ups and ongoing technical service.
- Demonstrates ability to influence
project direction by providing technical input to the planning and
decision making process.
- Functions as Technical Leader
for technical focused projects, providing direction and monitoring
various associates, support groups or contractors as project dictates.
- Independently determines and
develops technical approach to solutions on product development teams.
- Identifies and resolves
technical conflicts, including resources, to ensure projects meet
- Conduct all activities in
compliance with established safety standards and Good Manufacturing
- Design, execute and analyze
experimentation resulting in dry blend seasoning and dry pasta formula
development for use in dry dinner finished good products with high
- Lead technical projects
involving multiple plant locations including transfer, set-up and
start-up qualifications of products moving between plant locations.
- Provide on-going technical
expertise to assist QA with troubleshooting issues with product,
process and packaging in plant production as needed.
- Supports, coordinates and
conducts trial and startup of new products. Finalize product and
process specifications for startup of new items. Provide necessary
controls for sensory approval by QA during and following hand-off of
- Provide formulation input
into Genesis software and development of tentative label
specifications for internal and external review.
- Continuously develop
technical expertise, enhanced by internal presentations and external
seminars, to stay current in emerging technology, trends and
regulatory requirements directly applicable and mentor peers with
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food science
or related field required.
- Ability to work in a fast
paced, task oriented cross functional team environment.
- Strong formulation capability
– lab & pilot plant. Experience in technology development
including scale-up to pilot / commercial scale.
- Hands-on formulation
experience; understanding of ingredient interactions / functionality.
- Experience interfacing with a
- Solid project management
skills. Good communication skills – written and spoken. Strong
competency in Dry Blend Product Development and work related
- Must be a self-starter,
independent worker, energetic and resourceful.
- Excellent written and verbal

less senior associates

Excel, PowerPoint, Genesis and SAP
