Purpose and Key Results of the
In conjunction with the Quality
Assurance Manager, the Food Safety Quality Engineer (QE) ensures all quality
and regulatory related activities meet company service, quality, and food
safety objectives. This position provides quality system leadership and
technical direction to coordinators, supervisors, and floor level employees.
The QE ensures that all quality and food safety programs and trainings are
completed and documented. Acts as the primary floor level quality and food
safety advocate for the company. The QE works cross departmentally regarding
quality assurance and food safety related opportunities.
- Provide Quality and Food Safety
leadership & direction through technical mastery in the areas of:
regulatory compliance, allergen, micro management, and sanitation
- Provide plant technical support
for projects, Research and Development (R&D), reformulations, and
new product startups.
- Partner with operations,
maintenance, sanitation, and engineering to continuously reduce risk
within operating plant.
- Ensure facility meets all
regulatory, sanitation, and product safety guidelines.
- Provide training in the areas
of quality systems, Statistical Process Control (SPC), regulatory, and
- Develop and implement training
of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
- Responsible for ensuring
effective Trace/Recall system and protocol.
- Manage issues with
non-conforming product to assure proper control, minimize losses, and
provide analysis to eliminate future occurrences.
- Ensure the highest standards of
quality and continuously seek out opportunities to improve products and
- Investigate and respond to
customer/consumer inquiries. Use plant specific consumer complaint
information to develop quality improvement focus areas.
Audits & Reporting
- Conducts Food Safety and
Quality Internal Audits; shares and discusses results with the floor
- Ownership and management of the
Quality Risk Scorecard; trains staff on Quality Risk Scorecard and
reports progress and Food Safety updates.
- Lead investigator on Quality
Incidents CAPA (Corrective Action/Preventative Action) and related reporting.
- Manages, updates, and reviews
3rd party (Safe Quality Foods (SQF) & others) audit documentation.
- Track and report on quality
- Adheres to safety programs in
order to provide a safe and clean workplace for fellow employees within the
regulations of all OSHA local, state and federal regulations.
- Maintains personal safety
training requirements per job safety training matrix.
- Maintains safety requirements
for job duties as directed.
- Performs other assignments from
time to time as requested by the Quality Assurance Manager to achieve
department and company business goals.

- Intermediate knowledge of
Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to work independently.

- Work well under pressure in
order to meet multiple, and sometimes, competing deadlines.
- Bachelorís degree in Food
Science or related science.
- 1 year of related experience,
3+ years preferred.
- Global Food Safety Initiative
(GFSI) experience, implementing and maintaining the program (SQF/British
Retail Consortium (BRC) or equivalent).
- Hazard Analysis and Critical
Control Points (HACCP) certified with experience in implementation of
- SQF Practitioner.
- Knowledge of the rice industry
and processing/production systems.
Work Environment Sitting/Standing/Walking: 70%
of the work time is spent sitting in an office and the other 30% is spent
standing/walking around work area.Vision:
Ability to effectively visualize the computer screen for long periods of
time, read printed materials, observe work processes, inspect machinery,
distinguish various kinds of products, and differentiate various sizes,
colors, and quantities.Stooping/Kneeling:
Ability to kneel and/or stoop when required.
Reaching/Handling: Ability to reach and/or handle
product when needed.
Lifting/Carrying: Ability to lift, hold,
and carry up to 40 lbs. for a short distance.
Speaking/Hearing: Ability to communicate with
co-workers and supervisors.
Physical Requirements for Performing
Work area is in an inside
environment with moderate temperature and low background noise. Occasional
work in other departments within their work environment.
