Directs the development and
execution of strategic food safety programs that comply with HACCP (Hazard
Analysis Critical Control Point) concepts for food safety and drives
compliance through company and franchise restaurants, distribution centers,
transportation service providers, and suppliers of the Jack in the Box brand.
Identifies and works with internal and external experts to ensure the company
stays current on food safety systems, technologies, federal, state, and local
- Oversees the development and
application of food safety systems and standards as they apply to Jack
in the Box restaurant operations, distribution systems, supplier
facilities and processes, and third-party food safety management
resources. Approves all food safety processes and directs the execution
of established procedures and standards.
- Identifies and works with
internal and external food safety experts to ensure food safety brand protection
and regulatory compliance. Communicates and advises on food safety
protocol to management, business partners, the franchise community,
suppliers, and other key stakeholders to optimize the food safety
performance of Jack in the Box.
- Coordinates closely with
Quality Assurance, Technical Services, and Supply Chain teams at the
company to optimize ingredient, supplier, distributor execution
processes to insure product safety, quality and supply integrity.
- Partners with internal
departments to integrate changes or new technologies into company
programs or operations. Serves as key member of the crisis team on
issues related to foodborne illness, product recall, and consumer
- Supports the Legal Department
in the review of food supply contracts, addressing community health
issues, investigating foodborne illness or injury claims, and providing
expertise in food safety litigation or regulatory compliance issues
affecting the Brand.
- Leads and manages a staff of
professionals who (a) provide food safety and regulatory expertise and
skills to our business, (b) manage or perform food safety evaluations on
products, systems, and facilities, (c) assess restaurant risks, and (d)
provide direct support to restaurant operations.
- Understands, manages, and
mitigates food safety risks from farm to fork to protect our guests,
employees, and Brand.
- Bachelor’s degree in Food
Science, Food Microbiology, Public Health, Biology, or related field;
advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum 8 years of experience
in the food industry, including 5 years’ experience in a in a food
safety, quality assurance, or food microbiology leadership role. Must
have a passion for food safety and strong knowledge or HACCP principles
related to food safety management.
- Requires strong knowledge of
food safety principles and practices, protein and non-protein food
processing and handling, and protein product manufacturing and safety
procedures; and thorough knowledge of food and production HACCP systems
and crisis management techniques; general knowledge of microbiology and

written English communication skills, with the ability to interact with
levels throughout the organization. Requires strong leadership skills,
interpersonal skills and the ability to coach and develop others.
- Working knowledge of personal
computers and related communication and data management technology.
- Ability to travel to various
locations approximately 25% - 35% of time to supplier facilities, distribution
centers, restaurants, and other locations as business needs require.
