Run and maintain the micro biology program within Regulatory, GFSI, and corporate standards at the Yonkers refinery. 


Essential Duties

  • Ensure required micro testing is completed in a timely fashion
  • Ensure micro reports are completed, reviewed and communicated appropriately
  • Maintain micro lab and equipment with acceptable standards
  • Establish and maintain lab master sanitation schedule and 5S systems
  • Lead root cause corrective action for micro issue and micro related customer complaints
  • Maintain corrective action log and drive corrective action completions concerning micro
  • Conduct internal audits as assigned
  • Coach and mentor peers on Safety and Food Safety 
  • Participate and assist as assigned in the HACCP program
  • Update and review micro procedures
  • Must be available for weekend and off shift work as needed 



  • Maintain assigned SQF programs
  • Maintain and improve the site micro program and ensure it meets both GFSI, Regulatory and corporate standards
  • Maintain/ drive lab proficiency program


Relationships/Inter-department Liaisons

  • Interacts with purchasing, maintenance, process, packaging and warehouse teams to ensure reliability of assigned food safety systems.
  • Works together with maintenance, process, and packaging departments on corrective actions ensuing from customer complaints, nonconforming products, auditing, changes to procedures, HACCP plan changes as appropriate to assigned food safety programs.
  • Works closely with other laboratory staff in order to maintain efficient testing, clean working environment.
  • Works with customer’s microbiology/ quality team to trouble shoot and resolve issues. 


Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Food Science, or other science related field
  • Excellent communication and written skills in English
  • Proven History of good laboratory skills and techniques
  • Capable of troubleshooting and resolving issues in fast paced manufacturing environment
  • Strong Computer skills, including Microsoft Office


Preferred Experience

  •  Experience working with SAP
