Director, Regional Food Safety & Quality - West REMOTE, Colorado

Leads internal and external collaboration and connectivity in the Research, Quality, and Technical Services (RQT) function to ensure leveraging of best practices and consistency of RQT policies and standards for up the Western Region Ardent Mills facilities. Coaches plant teams to build and develop foundational expertise in the business. Helps them to understand the impact of decisions made from a commercial perspective with a balanced view of food safety/quality with risk assessment. Builds talent pool to strengthen RQT function and provide career path opportunities.

Acts as a resource for plant teams to resolve customer complaints/issues. Encourages thorough analysis, appropriate corrective action and follow up with the customer. May also act as liaison with customer to facilitate discussion from a broader business view representing individual or multiple plants. Tracks incidents to understand trends and potential process or procedure modifications needed to address.

Conducts routine assessments of plant lab quality and safety performance to ensure compliance to policies and procedures. Ensures appropriate follow-up is performed to correct and promote continuous improvement.

This role reports to the Sr Director, FSQR.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure compliance to Quality/Food Safety (Q/FS) regulations/policies – assumes ultimate accountability for multiple locations’ Quality/Food Safety (Q/FS) execution, compliance, and activities. Analyzes and interprets policies, customer standards, and directs implementation of Q/FS policies.
  • Perform prevention activities and issue resolution – ensure connectivity and collaboration between Quality functions across multiple facilities in the business. Mediates and ensures resolution, proactively anticipates risk and takes preventative action, and proactively addresses risk areas and other duties as assigned
  • Develop, implement and assess Quality processes/systems – directs implementation of multiple locations’ Q/FS systems, specification management, driving continuous improvement.
  • Shape quality and food safety culture – builds internal and external partnerships, ensures customer complaint issues addressed.
  • People/resource/budget management – lead talent management of employees in Quality organization for multiple facilities; build and develop effective, engaged workforce; develop strategic and tactical Quality plans for BU.



  • Willing to travel up to 60% of time
  • Willing to work (occasionally) in a plant environment
  • Able to work with wheat products i.e. no wheat /gluten sensitivity, intolerance and/or allergies

Skills & Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Food Science, Biological Sciences, or related fields or equivalent relevant work experience
  • Minimum 8 years experience in food industry in technical roles; i.e. Quality, Food Safety, Auditing
  • Intermediate HAACP Knowledge/Implementation - Applies HACCP to identify and control food safety hazards
  • Intermediate Customer Specifications Management: Interfaces effectively with customers; ensures products meet customer specifications; answers questions and solves customer problems.
  • Intermediate Managing and Improving Processes - Delivers processes that are aligned, effective, and optimizes resources.
  • Intermediate Plant/Manufacturing Knowledge - Demonstrates practical knowledge of manufacturing processes and operations.
  • Intermediate Project Management - Applies a structured, disciplined approach to planning, administering and completing projects successfully.
  • Intermediate Training - Delivers intermediate learning solutions that engage leaners and provides desired outcomes
  • Basic Business Acumen - Applies deep and practical business acumen to partner effectively with business counterparts.
  • Basic Product Information/Documentation - Prepares product information and documentation that meet regulatory compliance requirements.
  • Basic External Partnering - Builds relationships and negotiates effectively with external groups.
  • Basic Scientific Knowledge - Applies scientific knowledge, principles to identify and manage risks.
  • Basic Knowledge of Quality Standards & Quality Tools – Applies knowledge of quality standards and tools to enhance food safety and quality.
