JOB DESCRIPTION

Responsible for Quality & Food Safety program at the Slippery Rock, PA facility, with the assignment to implement and certify the facility under SQF Level 3, as well as maintaining the certification, and guarantee regulatory compliance for Whitehall Specialties Slippery Rock, PA. He/She will work with Managers, Supervisors, Line Leads, and Quality & Food Safety Team to ensure all employees follow GMPís and Quality protocols, supporting compliance with GFSI certification and federal regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as an SQF Practitioner
  • Conduct Quality Systems reviews to ensure compliance with SQF, HACCP, GMPs, company policies and procedures, and regulatory related documents, as assigned by Director of Quality & Food Safety;
  • Work with staff from other departments to resolve compliance issues found during the Quality Systems review;
  • Coordinate all scheduled audits, reserving room, lunch, and communicating internally with the parts involved;
  • Respond to customers sending Quality & Food Safety related documents, such as SQF Audit, Regulatory Inspections, keeping track of who requested and who the document was sent to;
  • Manage Internal and External Quality audits, such as potential and/or current vendors and service providers;
  • Support other QA Managers with various projects, as needed;
  • Perform laboratory tests, swabs, process adjustment recommendations, interacting with Production, promoting a culture of Low Defect and High Quality products;
  • Verify activities of production line for product and packaging specifications, sanitation effectiveness, and line efficiency;
  • Lead SQF audits for the site, as the SQF Practitioner, and follow up with necessary Corrective Actions
  • Perform checks for HACCP and SQF paperwork on the floor;
  • Provide reports of the monitoring results to other departments;
  • Cross-Train with team members in other departments as deemed necessary by the Dir. Of Quality & Food Safety;
  • Inform upper management of any food safety risk, and significant non-conformances and take action to maintain the integrity and efficacy of the Food Safety and Food Defense programs;
  • Maintain SQF Practitioner certification
  • Provide back-up for other QA Managers and Supervisors as necessary;
  • Addresses unsafe acts, unsafe conditions, and hazards in their respective work area;
  • Carry out any tasks per the request of the Dir.of Quality & Food Safety;

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage QA Technicians, assigning responsibilities as necessary.

WORK SAFETY

Ensures that all tasks of the position are performed in a safe manner at all times and that all procedures and requirements are properly followed to accomplish assigned tasks.

QUALITY & FOOD SAFETY

Responsible for reporting Quality & Food Safety problems to Dir.of Quality & Food Safety or upper management, in the absence of the immediate supervisor, and for taking immediate actions to address potential risks for the product safety.

BACK-UP COVERAGE

In the absence of the Quality Manager, the Director of Quality will be responsible for covering or assigning a qualified individual.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The knowledge, skills, and abilities typically acquired through the completion of an Associateís or Bachelorís degree program in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, Veterinary, or similar science.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • General knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points (HACCP), Sanitation, and Production;
  • 3 years experience in a food manufacturing environment or experience in a technical support area such as Food Safety & Quality, and Product Development;
  • Certified SQF Practitioner, or be able to attend training to become a certified SQF Practitioner, and all Quality & Food Safety related training and certifications (HACCP, FSMA Qualified Individual);
  • HACCP certified, or be able to attend training to become certified;
  • Must be cross-trained and obtain familiarity in all departments of the company. This will include sanitation, maintenance, shipping and receiving, processing and others as needed;
  • Experience with FDA and USDA;
  • Experience with Dairy;

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Strong oral, listening, written and electronic communication skills in order to communicate with all levels of the organization. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations, and to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, averages, density, area, circumference, and volume with accuracy and ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING SKILLS

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions given in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized situations. Ability to critically analyze processes and procedures to identify and assess potential food safety hazards and quality defects.
